✨🥀Sorcery of Thorns🥀✨

I ended up DNF this book… It just wasn’t working for me right now.. I will try to read it again soon!🫡

📖 Name of the Book: Sorcery of Thorns by Margaret Rogerson

📄 Plot: Set in Austermeer, where books are alive and full of magic, Elizabeth grew up surrounded by them. Elizabeth is then accused of a crime which leads her to put her trust in two unlikely allies to seek out the truth and save their world.

📖 Genre: Fantasy

📄 My Favorite Quotes: TBA!

💭 My Thoughts: I love a good fairytale retelling especially when the cover art is dark and there is an enemies to lovers trope!! I have high hopes for this book since i’ve seen a lot of good ratings for it. I’ll update this post with my final thoughts. :) (before reading)

... Read moreEven though 'Sorcery of Thorns' by Margaret Rogerson wasn't quite clicking for me when I first picked it up, I totally understand why so many readers absolutely adore this book, and I’m definitely planning to give it another shot! There's just so much about it that promises a magical, enchanting read, and I've heard incredible things. First off, let's talk about that stunning book cover for 'Sorcery of Thorns' itself – it's truly captivating! The artwork, featuring a woman with long, flowing hair and a sword, set against a beautiful floral patterned fabric, immediately draws you into its dark fantasy world. It perfectly encapsulates the mystical and slightly ominous vibe of the story. It really made me excited, promising a blend of action and enchantment. This visual appeal, combined with the promise of a 'current fantasy read' with 'enemies to lovers' and 'Beauty & the Beast retelling' elements (as seen on the cover overlays), truly sets high expectations for the adventure within its pages. The cover alone is a piece of art that makes you want to pick it up. The world Margaret Rogerson builds in Austermeer is another huge draw. Imagine libraries where books are not just repositories of knowledge, but living, breathing entities, filled with magic – some benevolent, some terrifying. This concept alone is enough to hook any fantasy lover. Our protagonist, Elisabeth Scrivener, grew up in one of these Grand Libraries as an orphan, destined to become a Warden. Her journey is central to the story; she's flung into a dangerous situation where she's accused of a crime she didn't commit. This forces her to rely on unexpected allies, including a powerful sorcerer and his demon servant, to uncover the truth. I was really intrigued by Elisabeth's strength and her determination to protect the very books that might be her undoing. Speaking of allies, the 'enemies to lovers' trope is something I always look for, and 'Sorcery of Thorns' delivers! The dynamic between Elisabeth and the sorcerer, Nathaniel Thorn, is a slow burn that promises tension, witty banter, and eventually, a deep connection. For those who enjoy a good fairytale retelling, you’ll definitely find elements reminiscent of 'Beauty & the Beast' woven throughout the narrative – from the isolated, magical setting to the complex relationship between a seemingly monstrous figure and a courageous young woman. It’s a trope done so well in many YA fantasies, and I had high hopes for it here. A common question I see is, 'is Sorcery of Thorns spicy?' As a young adult (YA) fantasy novel, it definitely falls more into the romantic fantasy category with a focus on plot and character development rather than explicit scenes. You can expect plenty of tension and heartfelt moments, but it's generally not considered 'spicy' in the way some adult fantasy or romance novels are. It’s more about the emotional connection and the evolving relationship. Even though I paused my reading, I can see the immense appeal this book holds. The intricate magic system, the beautifully described libraries, and the compelling characters like Elisabeth and Nathaniel make it a standout for many. It’s a book that invites you to lose yourself in a world where magic and danger lurk behind every shelf. I'm genuinely looking forward to revisiting it when I can give it my full attention, because I truly believe it has all the ingredients for a captivating fantasy experience. If you’re a fan of rich world-building, magical libraries, and the 'enemies to lovers' trope, this might just be your next favorite read!
