Hey everyone! So glad you stopped by my little corner of Lemon8. My first post was a quick intro, but many of you asked about my journey and what’s really changing in my life right now, so I wanted to dive a bit deeper. Becoming a licensed therapist isn't just a career choice for me; it's a huge life shift that’s reshaping everything. For a while, I knew I wanted to help people, but finding the right path felt like a maze. Deciding to go to grad school and dedicate myself to mental health has been the most impactful decision I've made in years. It wasn't an easy leap, requiring a lot of introspection and commitment, but the desire to contribute meaningfully to others' well-being was too strong to ignore. It's not just about textbooks and theories; it’s about understanding human connection on a whole new level and helping individuals navigate their own complexities. Working full-time at a mental health non-profit as a parent outreach coordinator has been incredibly eye-opening. Every day, I see firsthand the challenges families face and the immense strength they possess. It’s a humbling experience that continuously reinforces why I’m doing this. This role isn't just a job; it's a daily lesson in empathy, resilience, and the power of support systems. It's taught me so much about communication and navigating sensitive situations, skills that are invaluable for my future as a therapist. The impact on my personal life has been profound too. Of course, it means balancing a demanding schedule – juggling grad school assignments, work responsibilities, and still making time for myself. It’s a constant learning curve, requiring discipline and adaptability, but one I wouldn’t trade for anything. Speaking of balance, amidst all the academic and professional intensity, I make sure to carve out moments for joy! You know I'm a huge foodie, and exploring new recipes or trying out a vibrant pink cocktail in a cool spot after a long week is my kind of therapy. There's something so relaxing about unwinding with friends, perhaps with a drink in a hurricane glass, garnished with a fresh pineapple slice and a red cherry, letting the ice cubes clink gently. Even simple pleasures like coloring mandalas, losing myself in a good book, or just dancing it out are crucial for my self-being. These moments on an orange tablecloth at a cozy bar, with a blurred background, remind me to stay present and grounded. They're not just hobbies; they're essential parts of my self-care routine that help me stay energized for my demanding path.
