⭐️Overall rating: /10: 10
Additional Tips: first time we went it was cold out so wasn't as crowded. When we went again, the last Saturday of the event, it was super crowded and could barely do anything unless we wanted to wait in a long line. Besides being the last Saturday it was also a super nice night. So I would say when it's cooler and maybe on a Thursday or Sunday night.
Attending Glow Wild at Brookfield Zoo is truly a unique experience that blends art, culture, and wildlife in a fantastic nighttime setting. One thing I realized during my visits is that timing plays a crucial role in how enjoyable your experience will be. Crowds can really affect your ability to see and enjoy the lanterns up close, as was evident when visiting on the event’s last Saturday which was both crowded and warm. From my experience, visiting on a cooler weekday evening like Thursday or Sunday can make the trip much more pleasant and less rushed. Each lantern at Glow Wild is meticulously crafted, often reflecting animals seen at the zoo as well as mythical creatures from various cultures. This adds a storytelling element that makes the event educational and entertaining for visitors of all ages. The lanterns are not only visually stunning but also illuminate traditional wildlife conservation messages, helping raise awareness in a creative way. Aside from the lanterns, the ambiance at Brookfield Zoo during this festival is magical. The combination of soft lighting, the natural zoo environment, and the gentle hum of visitors creates a captivating atmosphere. For families, it’s a wonderful way to engage children with nature and culture simultaneously. Don’t forget to dress warmly, as evenings can get chilly, and comfortable footwear is a must due to the walking involved. In preparation for your visit, checking the forecast and the zoo’s schedule online can help you plan around potential crowd peaks and weather. Many families find early evening arrivals beneficial to enjoy the daylight and stay for the gradual glow as darkness falls, giving a layered experience from day to night. Overall, Glow Wild is more than just a light festival; it’s a celebration of wildlife and artistic creativity that brings the community together. Whether it’s your first visit or a repeat trip, each experience offers something memorable. I highly recommend this festival to anyone looking for a vibrant and educational outing in Chicago, especially during the festive season.
