My heart is heavy with what's going on in this world in this present day. There are so many hateful people. There are so many people who cater to the chaos. There are times when I just want to close myself in and just focus on me, myself, and I, but the way my soul is set up, I can't do that. So, this is me convincing me that no matter how hard it is, I will not quit. Have you ever had that feeling of just giving up?

My heart feels heavy just thinking about the negativity that seems to swirl in the news and even in our daily interactions. There are days I honestly just want to pull the covers over my head and ignore it all. I know I'm not alone in feeling this way. That feeling of wanting to just quit, to disengage, to focus only on yourself because it all feels too much – it's a powerful one.
But then, something inside me, that quiet voice, reminds me that retreat isn't really an option for my spirit. It's a journey, a daily decision to keep showing up, even when it feels incredibly hard. So, what do I do on those days when the weight of the world feels unbearable, and the thought of giving up whispers in my ear?
First, I allow myself to feel it. There's no shame in acknowledging sadness, anger, or exhaustion. Bottling it up only makes it harder. I might journal, listen to music that resonates, or simply take a moment to breathe deeply. This isn't giving in; it's acknowledging my humanity.
Next, I consciously shift my focus to what I can control and what brings me a sense of purpose. For me, that often involves connecting with others, even in small ways, or engaging in activities that align with my values, my own 'symonespurpose' if you will. Sometimes it's as simple as helping a neighbor, offering a kind word, or contributing to a cause I care about. These small acts remind me that even amidst chaos, there's good to be done and meaning to be found.
I also try to limit my exposure to constant negativity. While it's important to be informed, a constant diet of distressing news can be detrimental. I choose specific times to check updates and then intentionally switch to content that uplifts or inspires. This isn't about avoidance; it's about mindful consumption for mental well-being.
Building a strong support system is crucial. Talking to friends, family, or even finding online communities where people share similar struggles can be incredibly validating. Knowing you're not alone in your feelings can be a huge source of strength. Sometimes, just hearing someone else say, "Yeah, I feel that too," makes all the difference.
Finally, I remind myself of past challenges I've overcome. We are all more resilient than we give ourselves credit for. Remembering those moments when I thought I couldn't go on, but I did, fuels my determination. It's about remembering your own strength and acknowledging your journey. This isn't just about never giving up on a big goal; it's about never giving up on yourself and your capacity for hope. So, if you're feeling that urge to throw in the towel, I hope this helps you find that little spark to keep going, one day at a time.
