Don’t Miss This Crispy Tea-Smoked Duck✨ in NYC‼️

It’s been two years since my last visit to CHILI, and I still vividly remember how good it was back then. With so many Sichuan spots in Manhattan, it’s easy to overlook this gem—but it’s definitely worth revisiting!

This time, I brought a friend, and we discovered some new dishes that weren’t on the menu before.

🔥 Star Dishes:

👉🏻 Glutinous Tea-Smoked Duck

• The glutinous rice was fragrant, soft, and chewy without sticking to your teeth.

• The duck had a crispy skin and firm, flavorful meat.

• Paired perfectly with the tangy plum sauce—an absolute must-try!

👉🏻 Braised Beef Tendon

• So tender and bouncy, it melts in your mouth.

👉🏻 Crispy Fish

• Thin and incredibly crunchy—a delightful surprise!

👉🏻 Mixed Mushrooms with Okra

• Earthy, savory, and cooked just right—simple yet delicious.

🍸 Cocktail Picks:

• I had the Bubble cocktail—tangy and creamy, super refreshing.

• My boyfriend tried Drinking Alone by the Moonlight, made with a white liquor base and grapefruit essence. It was aromatic, light, and perfectly balanced.

This place still hits the spot with its unique flavors, thoughtful presentation, and vibrant atmosphere.

... Read moreWhen I'm craving Chinese food in NYC, especially something truly special, my mind often goes to duck. While Peking Duck is a classic, the Tea-Smoked Duck at CHILI offers a completely different, yet equally captivating, experience. What makes this dish, particularly the Glutinous Tea-Smoked Duck, so exceptional and why should it be on your must-try list in Manhattan? First, let's talk about the 'tea-smoked' aspect. Unlike roasted duck, this preparation infuses the meat with a delicate, aromatic smokiness from tea leaves, often combined with spices. This process gives the duck a distinctive, complex flavor that's both savory and subtly fragrant. The result is a duck with incredibly crispy skin – a detail the OCR also highlighted – and tender, flavorful meat. It's not just about the crispiness, though that's definitely a highlight; it's about the depth of flavor that sets it apart from other duck dishes you might find. CHILI takes it a step further by serving their duck with fragrant glutinous rice. This combination is genius! The soft, slightly sticky rice perfectly complements the rich, crispy duck, absorbing all those delicious juices and smoky notes. And that tangy plum sauce? It cuts through the richness beautifully, adding a bright, sweet-and-sour counterpoint that ties everything together. It's a symphony of textures and flavors in every bite – definitely not just a 'smoked duck don' but a full culinary experience. Beyond the star duck, the dining experience at CHILI is truly vibrant. As the OCR images suggest, the interior has a unique charm with its vintage-style decor, crystal chandelier, and interesting design elements. It creates a cozy yet lively atmosphere that makes your meal even more enjoyable. It's the kind of place where you can relax, enjoy great food, and soak in the ambiance. And while the duck might steal the show, don't overlook their other fantastic dishes. The Braised Beef Tendon, with its melt-in-your-mouth tenderness, is a testament to their skillful cooking. The Crispy Fish and Crispy Shrimp are delightful surprises, offering that satisfying crunch and fresh flavor. Even simple dishes like the Mixed Mushrooms with Okra are executed perfectly, proving that CHILI pays attention to every detail on their menu. Pairing these with one of their unique cocktails, like the 'Bubble' or 'Drinking Alone by the Moonlight,' truly rounds out a memorable meal. If you're exploring Chinese food in NYC, CHILI offers a unique and delicious adventure beyond the usual, especially for lovers of crispy, flavorful duck.
