🔥 NYC Hidden Gem: Authentic Uzbek Feast! 🔥

📍 Taste of Samarkand

Finally made it to this Uzbek spot we’d been eyeing for months—and it did NOT disappoint. 🇺🇿✨

🥩 What We Ate:

✔️ Plov (Uzbek Rice Pilaf)—so fragrant and flavorful, hands down the best dish!

✔️ Hummus & Fresh Bread—crispy when hot, so eat it fast!

✔️ Grilled Meat Skewers—juicy and perfectly charred

✔️ Samsa (Uzbek Meat Pies)—similar to dumplings, but baked & flakier

✔️ Homemade Sausage (Blood Sausage?!)—unexpectedly good!

✔️ Special Uzbek Coffee—I think it tasted different… but not sure how 😆

⭐️ Bonus: The staff are all super tall, model-esque Uzbek guys—lowkey felt too shy to take pics 😳😂

Overall, a must-try if you’re into Central Asian cuisine!

... Read moreSeriously, if you’re on the hunt for truly authentic Uzbek food in NYC or Manhattan, you have to put Taste of Samarkand on your list. I’d been meaning to check it out for ages, and now I’m kicking myself for not going sooner! It’s not just a meal; it’s an experience that transports you straight to Central Asia. Let's talk about the food! The Plov is an absolute masterpiece. I've had Plov before, but this was next level – the rice was so incredibly fragrant, perfectly cooked with tender meat chunks, shredded carrots, and those delightful chickpeas that just melt in your mouth. It truly felt like a home-cooked dish, rich in flavor without being greasy. It's the kind of dish you dream about long after you’ve finished eating. Then there are the Samsas. Oh my goodness, these flaky, golden-brown pastry pockets are filled with the most delicious savory meat and onion mixture. Each bite was pure bliss, with a perfect crisp exterior giving way to a warm, juicy filling. They're like little parcels of happiness, and I could honestly eat a dozen of them! They were served on a beautiful blue and white patterned plate, which just added to the charm. We also indulged in the Grilled Meat Skewers. We tried both the ground meat and the bone-in pieces, and they were both incredibly tender, juicy, and perfectly charred, with that wonderful smoky flavor. Simple yet perfectly executed, they were a fantastic counterpoint to the richer dishes. And the homemade sausage? It was dark, rich, and garnished with fresh dill, served on an ornate blue and gold platter – a surprisingly delicious and unique find! Don't forget the bread! They serve this amazing round, baked bread, topped with sesame and black seeds, warm and fresh. Paired with their creamy hummus, it's the perfect starter. We also had a large bowl of chickpeas, meat, and sliced onions, garnished with herbs, with bread slices around the rim and ornate spoons, which was so comforting. Beyond the food, the atmosphere at Taste of Samarkand really completes the dining adventure. The interior features set tables with crisp white tablecloths and ornate wooden wall panels that give it a warm, traditional feel. The decorative hanging lamps cast a cozy glow, making it a perfect spot for either a special dinner or a casual meal with friends. Even the staff contributes to the unique vibe – super tall and genuinely welcoming. It all makes for a memorable evening that goes beyond just eating; it's about soaking in a new culture through its cuisine. If you're wondering what to order, definitely start with the Plov and Samsa. For a full experience, add some grilled meats and the fresh bread. It’s perfect for sharing, so bring a few friends and try a bit of everything! This spot truly delivers an authentic taste of Uzbekistan right here in the heart of NYC, making it a definite must-visit for any food adventurer.
