Best book for anyone with ADHD

This book was recommended to me a while back by someone here on Lemon8, they said it was very informative and easy to follow, so of course I immediately purchased it since I have a loved one with ADHD and would love to learn more about it so I know how to best help. The book didn’t disappoint, it had a lot of information, but I loved how they ease everything in without overwhelming you with info. And the doodles make it so much easier to follow along.

Here’s my review of the book.

📚 Title and Author: The mini ADHD life Coach - Alice Gendron

🌟 Genre: Self help

💬 Short Summary: this book helps the reader understand adhd and how to cope with it, mentally and emotionally.

Key Point #1 : Get a diagnosis no matter how old you are. This will help you, but also prepare yourself for hard conversations with people who might not understand ADHD.

Key Point #2 : what it’s like to live with ADHD. From the time you wake up till you go back to sleep. Gives advices of how to cope and so on.

Key Point #3: there’s a few hacks you can try to help with some symptoms you have no control over, while this has worked for some people it’s also important to understand it might not work for you

⭐️Overall rating: 5/5

... Read moreNavigating life with ADHD, whether personally or supporting a loved one, is a unique journey that often comes with its own set of challenges and triumphs. Finding the right resources, like 'The Mini ADHD Life Coach,' can truly be a game-changer, offering clarity and practical strategies. One of the most profound aspects of this journey is the moment of diagnosis. For many, it's a huge relief, finally putting a name to lifelong experiences and feelings. The OCR text, "I'M NOT BROKEN? HAVE ADHD?" perfectly captures this sentiment. Learning about yourself through a diagnosis can transform self-doubt into understanding, allowing you to move forward with self-compassion. It's about recognizing that your brain simply works differently, not that there's something inherently wrong with you. This understanding is the first step towards effectively learning to cope with ADHD symptoms. While books provide invaluable insights, integrating that knowledge into daily life requires practical application. Beyond the theoretical, I've found a few strategies particularly helpful. For instance, managing time and tasks can be daunting. Using visual aids, much like the illustrations in the book, can be incredibly effective. Simple things like color-coded calendars, sticky notes, or even drawing out your day's plan can significantly improve organization. Breaking down large tasks into smaller, manageable steps also reduces overwhelm and helps maintain focus. It’s about creating systems that work with your brain, not against it. Emotional regulation is another area where many with ADHD seek guidance. The OCR mentions emotional reactions after diagnosis can be extreme, and it's true that intense feelings like rage and anger are not uncommon. Developing healthy coping mechanisms for these emotions is crucial. Mindfulness exercises, journaling to process thoughts, or even a brief walk can help create a pause before reacting. Building a supportive network, whether it’s friends, family, or a therapist, provides a safe space to share and process these feelings, which is vital for understanding the ADHD experience holistically. Finally, remember that managing ADHD is an ongoing process of discovery and adaptation. What works one day might not work the next, and that’s perfectly okay. Continuously learning about yourself, experimenting with different strategies, and celebrating small victories are key. Embrace the uniqueness of your neurodivergent brain, and know that there's a growing community and wealth of resources available to help you thrive. The goal isn't to 'fix' ADHD, but to understand it deeply and develop personalized ways to cope and live a fulfilling life.
