Old boots get new look

These cowboy boots have been in top of my closet for more than 12 years, & maybe worn once to a Billy Bobs Show. The leather was thirsty and a much lighter color. But, after some good leather conditioner they darkened back to original color and are no longer dull.

I then decided to bling them up since I plan to wear them to a couple of events soon. I had originally planned on making a bracelet but then decided to make a bracelet for the left boot. Then a couple of turquoise and copper feathers were going to be earrings but became boot charms for the side pull up straps. Of course these will only show when worn with a skirt/dress, so made sure to add clasps to the chains for easy removal when needed. What do you think? Perfect for the chuck wagon ranch we are going to plus a rodeo! #cowboyboots #BlingedUpBoots #HandmadeCharms #myNewOldBoots #BlingOnABudget

... Read moreI've had a similar experience with restoring and customizing old cowboy boots that were sitting unused in my closet for years. One of the big challenges I found was making sure the leather conditioner I used was the right type for my boots; I opted for a natural, deep-conditioning cream that really revived the leather without making it greasy or sticky. It helped restore the original color and made the boots more supple and comfortable to wear again. Blinging up boots is such a fun way to express your style, especially when you add personal touches like charms or bracelets attached to the pull-up straps. I also experimented with different types of charms, from natural elements like turquoise feathers to vintage-looking metallic pieces, and it instantly gave my boots a fresh and unique look. Adding clasps to the chains is a brilliant idea because it allows you to easily remove the decorations depending on your outfit or occasion. If you're planning to wear your customized boots to special events like rodeos or themed parties at places like chuck wagon ranches, the key is to maintain balance—don't overdo the bling so it complements your outfit rather than overpowering it. Plus, creating handmade boot charms can be a rewarding craft project—you can find affordable supplies at craft stores or online, and it makes for a great gift idea as well. Aside from aesthetics, remember to maintain your boots regularly, especially if they’re older or were stored for long periods. Conditioning them periodically helps prevent the leather from drying and cracking. Overall, reviving old boots and adding your own charm details not only saves money but also gives you a stylish pair of footwear full of character and personal memories.
