I want to talk about this because it scared me more than any other symptom.

I am a sharp person. I have always been someone who is on it. quick thinking, good memory, always two steps ahead.

and then slowly I started feeling like I was operating in a fog. like my brain was running through mud. like the version of me that could think clearly had just quietly disappeared.

I would forget things immediately after being told them. I would lose my train of thought mid conversation. I would sit down to work and spend an hour feeling completely unable to focus on anything.

and I just thought I was stressed. I thought I was overworked. I thought I just needed a break.

what nobody told me was that chronically elevated cortisol literally affects your brain. it impacts memory. it destroys focus. it makes you feel like you are losing your sharpness because your nervous system is so overwhelmed it cannot function the way it is supposed to.

this was not aging.

this was not burnout.

this was cortisol.

and the clarity that came back when I finally addressed it made me realize how long I had been living in that fog without even knowing it.

follow me and comment CORTISOL below and I will share what finally lifted it. 🤍

... Read moreFrom personal experience, dealing with constant brain fog can be incredibly frustrating. I remember walking into a room and instantly forgetting why I was there, or losing my train of thought mid-sentence. At first, I blamed stress and overwork, thinking a simple break would fix things. However, I later learned that chronic cortisol elevation was the real culprit behind these cognitive challenges. High cortisol levels can actually shrink the hippocampus—the brain region responsible for memory and learning—which explains why I kept rereading paragraphs without retaining any information. This phenomenon isn't just about feeling tired or overworked; it’s a hormonal imbalance that disrupts how your nervous system functions. Addressing this issue involved making consistent lifestyle changes such as prioritizing sleep, practicing mindfulness to reduce stress, improving my diet with gut-friendly foods, and incorporating gentle exercise. These steps helped lower my cortisol and gradually restored my mental clarity. If you’re experiencing similar symptoms like forgetfulness, difficulty concentrating, or feeling mentally overwhelmed, it’s important not to dismiss them as simple burnout or aging. Understanding the impact of cortisol on brain health is key to finding the right solutions. Remember, you’re not losing your mind—your body is signaling that it needs support to rebalance and heal. Sharing my journey, I encourage others to look deeper into hormone health and brain fog causes. It’s empowering to regain the sharpness you thought was gone and realize how vital cortisol balance is to overall cognitive function and well-being.
