Boys need

From my experience as a parent, I’ve noticed that boys often face unspoken pressures to be tough and silent about their feelings. It’s so important to create a safe space where they can express emotions openly. For example, when my son came home upset from school, instead of telling him to "man up," I sat with him quietly and let him share what he felt without judgment. This helped him realize that vulnerability isn’t weakness. Encouraging slow, meaningful conversations rather than rushing to solve problems can significantly improve a boy’s emotional intelligence. I remember one evening when we simply talked about his day and feelings, which deepened our connection. Also, showing them male role models who express emotions healthily can challenge harmful stereotypes they might internalize. Another key insight is praising kindness and empathy, not just physical strength or achievements. When my son helped a friend in need, I made sure to acknowledge his kindness, reinforcing that true bravery includes compassion. Lastly, being persistent in reaching out to boys, especially when they seem distant, conveys unconditional support. All these practices create an environment where boys feel valued for who they are, not just how tough they can be.
