🎯 Moving the goalpost isn’t leadership—it’s strategic bullying & manipulation.

When managers constantly change expectations, pile on impossible demands, and set workers up to fail, the impact can reach far beyond the workplace—affecting stability, confidence, and emotional well-being. Document everything, know your worth, and protect your peace. 💼💜

... Read moreIn my experience, encountering managers who continuously move the goalposts is less about leadership and more about exerting control through strategic bullying and manipulation. It often starts subtly, with small shifts in expectations or additional tasks added without warning. Over time, the workload becomes overwhelming—deadlines tighten, new metrics are introduced, and responsibilities increase without corresponding support. This kind of environment leads to high stress and anxiety. You begin to question your own capabilities, even though the root cause lies in the unfair expectations imposed upon you. One critical strategy I found helpful is to document everything meticulously: emails, assigned tasks, changes in targets, and any communications that reflect these shifts. This documentation is essential if you ever need to address wrongful termination or unfair treatment. Another key takeaway is to know your worth and set firm boundaries. When supervisors demand more work with less support, it’s important to communicate your limits professionally yet assertively. Protecting your peace means recognizing when the situation is toxic and taking steps to safeguard your emotional and mental health. Engaging with communities and resources focused on toxic workplace behaviors—such as Narcissistic management tactics—can provide validation and practical advice. Channels like "The Rare One Rav" offer valuable insights that resonated with my own journey and learning. Ultimately, while it’s crucial to strive for professionalism and be a team player, it’s equally important to recognize manipulative patterns that undermine your stability and self-confidence. By staying aware, documenting changes, setting boundaries, and seeking support, you can better navigate these challenges and protect your future and peace of mind.
