Loc Petals 3 Ways: Sisterlocks/Microlocks Edition
Locstyle inspiration for your next appointment. While loc petals have become popular with traditional locs, those with smaller locs can rock them too! #locpetals #locstylesforwomen #locstyles #locinspo #microlocs
Hey everyone! If you're anything like me, you're always on the hunt for fresh and exciting ways to style your locs. Recently, I've fallen absolutely in love with petal loc styles, especially for those of us with Sisterlocks or Microlocs. I used to think these intricate styles were only for traditional locs, but let me tell you, our smaller locs are perfect for creating delicate, stunning petals! What I adore about petal loc styles is how they transform your hair into a work of art. The way the locs are folded and pinned creates a beautiful, floral-like effect that's both elegant and eye-catching. For Sisterlocks and Microlocs, the smaller size gives you incredible versatility and a more refined finish, making them ideal for these intricate designs. Plus, they're surprisingly durable once you get the hang of pinning them correctly. Let's dive into some of my go-to looks, including the fabulous styles I've been rocking lately: 1. The Effortless Top Petal Bun Half Up/Half Down This has quickly become my favorite for a chic, everyday look that still feels special. The "Top Petal Bun Half Up/Half Down" is perfect when you want to keep some locs flowing but also want an elevated element. To achieve this, I start by separating the top half of my hair. I gather it into a high ponytail, then take sections of the ponytail, fold them into petal shapes, and secure them with bobby pins. The trick for Sisterlocks/Microlocs is to use smaller sections and plenty of pins to make sure each petal holds its shape without looking bulky. I love how it frames my face while leaving the rest of my locs to cascade down my back. It’s perfect for both casual outings and slightly dressier occasions. 2. The Bold Extended Petals Mohawk If you're feeling a bit more adventurous, the "Extended Petals Mohawk" is an absolute showstopper! This style really makes a statement. For this, I usually cornrow the sides of my head tightly, leading all the locs to the center. Then, I take the central section and create a series of stacked, elongated petals, running from front to back. Each petal needs to be carefully formed by looping and pinning individual or small groups of locs. The 'extended' part comes from making these petals a bit larger and more pronounced, giving that dramatic mohawk silhouette. It takes a little more time and patience, but the compliments you'll receive are totally worth it! It’s a fantastic way to showcase the texture and movement of your locs in a unique way. 3. The Elegant Petal Crown w/ Two Strands For a truly regal and sophisticated vibe, nothing beats a "Petal Crown w/ Two Strands." This style is my pick for special events or when I want to feel extra glamorous. I create a circular base around the crown of my head, then meticulously form petals all along this circle, pinning them close to the scalp. The key is to make sure the petals are uniform in size and neatly interlocked to create a continuous 'crown.' The 'two strands' part involves leaving two small sections of locs loose at the front, framing my face beautifully. These can be left straight or gently curled for a softer touch. This look is incredibly elegant and makes you feel like royalty! Tips for Success with Your Sisterlocks/Microlocs: Moisture is Key: Always make sure your locs are well-moisturized before styling to prevent breakage and make them more pliable. Small Bobby Pins: Invest in good quality, small bobby pins that blend with your hair color. You'll need quite a few! Be Gentle: Our smaller locs are delicate, so always handle them with care, especially when pinning and unpinning. Practice Makes Perfect: Don't get discouraged if your first attempt isn't flawless. Like any new style, it takes practice to perfect your petal placement. Petal loc styles have truly added a new dimension to my loc journey. They're a fantastic way to express creativity and elevate your look. I hope this gives you some amazing inspiration to try out these beautiful styles with your own Sisterlocks or Microlocs. Happy styling!
