Can I do more? Do better?

As a small business owner, I had to keep up and find new products to launch every year. Competition is huge but with limited budget and time, there's only this many things i can do.

I want to be able to have full control on the materials available and workmanship (nearly impossible at this point unless i fly to China). So I rely on sample pieces that I pay and have it shipped to me before mass production. Sample pieces are not cheap and my suppliers deal in usd, so it goes from 35 usd to 70 usd for 1 sample, depending on complexity. Ain't worth for a small business like mine to be honest but that is how I try to take the most control for production of my products. Some sacrifices gotta be done in an attempt to build a brand 🫠

This is also my first try at manufacturing something from scratch. I am no artist but I started out with some sketches and sent it to a supplier. He managed to do what I want but came with 1001 hiccups along the way. Manufacturing at a small quantity (I usually get between 200 to 500 pieces per product) will mean it will be more costly for each piece. I try to keep it as affordable as I can but with sky rocketing shipping and labor costs, sometimes I don't pocket any money. I guess this is the hustle and bustle, from starting with zero.

For those interested in creating their own products, understanding the costs associated with samples is crucial. As a small business, each sample can range from $35 to $70, depending on complexity, which can be a hefty investment when working with a limited budget. This is often a necessary step to ensure quality, as not having adequate control over materials and workmanship can lead to unsatisfactory results. Moreover, many entrepreneurs might consider manufacturing abroad to reduce costs. However, this can lead to additional logistics and quality control challenges. Setbacks and misunderstandings are common in this process, underscoring the importance of meticulous planning and communication with suppliers. It’s also essential to focus on your target market's needs when launching new products. Conducting research through social media and customer feedback can help tailor offerings effectively.
