Learning to stop arguing with my own mind 📖

BOOK: Master Your Emotions by Thibaut Meurisse
Sometimes I catch myself overthinking things that haven’t even happened. This page reminded me to give what I want just as much attention as what I’m afraid of. Still practicing. 🤎
From my own experience, learning to manage the constant chatter of the mind—often called the "monkey mind"—has been transformative. Like many, I used to get caught in spirals of worry about things that hadn’t even happened yet. What helped me most was practicing mindfulness and meditation regularly, which creates space between my thoughts and my sense of self. This separation allows me to observe fears without immediately reacting or giving them excessive attention. One powerful lesson I found aligns closely with advice from success expert Brian Tracy: focusing the conscious mind on what we desire rather than what we fear. This mindset shift makes a remarkable difference in emotional wellbeing. Whenever negative or anxious thoughts appear, I consciously redirect my attention toward goals, appreciation, or positive affirmations—essentially retraining my brain over time. Meditation, as explained in Buddhist practices, helps tame the restless mind by increasing awareness of these fleeting thoughts. Initially, it’s challenging to quiet the relentless flow, but perseverance pays off. Gradually, I noticed a clearer, calmer mental state and improved emotional regulation. These changes positively affected how I react in daily situations, reducing impulsive stress responses. Another helpful technique is journaling to externalize worries and dreams alike. Writing down what I want brings clarity and brings my focus to these desires, balancing the instinct to ruminate on fears. This practice complements meditation by anchoring my intentions with actionable steps. Ultimately, mastering emotions is an ongoing journey. Being patient and compassionate with oneself is key. Overthinking doesn’t vanish overnight, but each mindful choice to redirect attention strengthens our ability to live with greater peace and confidence. I continue to learn from insights like those in "Master Your Emotions" by Thibaut Meurisse, embracing the challenge of shifting mental habits for personal growth.

This is so hard! I’m working so hard on letting fear go but after the surgery it’s been so extremely hard! Any recommendations on meditation? I can’t get my mind quiet enough to start.
