3 Day Esther Journaling Fast

The Esther Fast is a powerful three-day fast inspired by Queen Esther’s story in the Bible (Esther 4:16). It’s a fast of purpose, courage, and divine favor — often done when you’re seeking breakthrough, protection, or direction from God.

... Read moreHey everyone! I wanted to share a deeper dive into my experience with the 3-Day Esther Fast, especially since so many of you asked for more practical guidelines. This fast isn't just about abstaining from food; it's a powerful time of seeking God's face for specific breakthroughs, much like Queen Esther did when her people faced a crisis. If you're looking for divine intervention, protection, or clear direction, this spiritual journey can be incredibly transformative. I truly believe that intentionally setting aside time for focused prayer and reflection, combined with fasting, opens up amazing channels for God to move in our lives. Before you even begin your 3-day Esther Fast, some preparation can make all the difference. I found it helpful to, first, pray for clarity on why I was fasting. What specific situation or area of my life needed God's favor or intervention? Jotting down these intentions in a journal really helps to keep your focus. Spiritually, preparing your heart means letting go of distractions and truly committing to this sacred time. Physically, I recommend easing into it; maybe cut down on caffeine or processed foods a day or two before to make the transition smoother. Hydration is key throughout the fast, so keep water or clear liquids readily available. Having a dedicated space for prayer and journaling also creates an atmosphere conducive to hearing from God. Day 1: Cultivating Courage & Preparation My journal guide for the Esther Fast really emphasized the first day as a time for courage and preparation, just like the OCR mentioned. I started by meditating on Esther 4:14 – “And who knows but that you have come to your royal position for such a time as this?” This scripture is so powerful because it reminds us that God has placed us exactly where we are for a purpose. For me, Day 1 was about surrendering my fears and asking God to fill me with His courage. What fears are holding you back from stepping into your divine assignment? What preparations do you need to make, spiritually or practically, to face your 'king'? My prayer focus for this day was simple: 'Lord, give me the courage of Esther to face what's ahead, and prepare my heart and mind for Your will.' I spent time journaling about past instances where God showed up when I felt afraid, building my faith for what was to come. Day 2: Seeking Favor & Divine Strategy As I moved into Day 2, the focus shifted to favor and divine strategy, drawing inspiration from Esther 5:2, where the king extended his golden scepter to Esther, granting her favor. This day is all about asking for God's wisdom and favor as you navigate your situation. Sometimes we know what we need, but not how to get there. This is where divine strategy comes in. I prayed specifically for God to reveal His plan, to open doors that no man can shut, and to grant me favor with those who could help. Journaling prompts for me included: 'Where do I need God's favor to shine?' and 'What strategic steps, big or small, might God be asking me to consider?' It's a day of listening intently and being open to unconventional solutions, remembering that God's ways are higher than ours. Day 3: Trusting for Breakthrough & Action Completing the 3-day Esther Fast felt like a significant milestone. Day 3 for me became about trusting God fully for the breakthrough and being ready to act on His leading. After days of seeking courage, favor, and strategy, it's time to rest in His promises. I meditated on scriptures about God's faithfulness and His power to deliver, like parts of Esther 8:3-6 where Esther pleads for her people. My prayer focus was on 'Lord, I trust Your timing and Your plan for my breakthrough. Show me when and how to take action.' I used my journal to write down any insights or promptings I received, and to declare my faith that God would move. It's a powerful way to solidify your prayers and prepare your heart for the manifestation of what you've been seeking. After the fast, remember to break it gently and continue to listen. The Esther Fast isn't just an event; it's a catalyst for deeper relationship and ongoing discernment. I hope these guidelines help you embark on your own incredible journey of faith and experience the divine favor that Esther found!
