As someone just a few years older than my younger sister, I’ve noticed how much social media habits have changed between our ages. My 10-year-old sister is already active on platforms like TikTok, Instagram, and Snapchat, while I, nearly 14, am not even on TikTok. This difference highlights how rapidly younger generations are adapting to and adopting new social media apps. Growing up, the typical kid my age mostly used YouTube and Roblox for entertainment—platforms focused more on video watching or gaming rather than the social sharing and viral challenges TikTok offers. But nowadays, it feels like kids as young as ten are already engaged in social media communities that thrive on fast content creation and interaction. I think this shift is partly because social media apps have become more accessible on mobile devices, making it easier for kids to join. Plus, many kids want to connect with friends quickly and see what’s trending in real time. While it’s cool that younger kids have new ways to express themselves, it also raises questions about how early exposure to social media affects their development. From my perspective, it’s kind of wild to see my sister handling multiple apps that I don’t even have. It makes me wonder if I’m missing out or if I’m just being more cautious as I grow up. Either way, it’s clear that each generation has its own digital world, and it’s interesting to watch how social media continues to shape youth culture today.
