Tippppp:
Add a little heavy cream or a little piece of butter to make it extra rich!
Pepper steak and rice is a timeless dish that delivers both flavor and comfort, making it a go-to for home cooks looking for something satisfying and delicious. What I love about this recipe is its balance—the tender sirloin or flank steak provides a juicy, meaty base, while the sautéed green and red bell peppers introduce a vibrant crunch and sweetness. The homemade gravy, made from beef broth, soy sauce, Worcestershire, and a touch of brown sugar, enhances the steak’s natural flavors and ties the dish together beautifully. One tip I’ve found useful when preparing this meal is to slice the steak thinly against the grain. This technique keeps the meat tender and allows it to soak up the rich gravy better. Also, cooking the steak quickly on high heat ensures it gets a nice sear without becoming tough. When it comes to the sauce, the cornstarch slurry is key to achieving that perfect glossy thickness—just be sure to stir continuously to avoid lumps. For the rice, using cooked white rice with a bit of butter and salt makes an ideal base to absorb the savory gravy. If you want to make the dish extra indulgent, adding a small splash of heavy cream or a piece of butter into the gravy at the end provides a luxurious richness that complements the spices nicely. This dish, inspired by nostalgic family meals, is not only delicious but also versatile. You can customize the seasonings by adjusting the paprika or adding a pinch of Cajun seasoning for a spicy kick. It’s a wonderful recipe to prepare for a cozy weeknight dinner or to impress guests with a comforting yet elegant plate. Sprinkle some fresh parsley on top for a pop of color, and enjoy a well-rounded meal that warms both body and soul.

This looks delicious!!! Would think a tad of Alfredo instead of heavy cream would work? Heavy cream upsets my stomach 🥺
