Being told to “just make a to-do list” when your brain feels like 37 browser tabs are open… and one of them is playing music, but you can’t figure out which one. 🤍
If you have ADHD, you’re not lazy.
You’re not unmotivated.
You’re not failing.
Your brain simply processes tasks differently, and once you stop fighting that and start working with it, everything begins to feel a little lighter.
These are the exact strategies that help make overwhelming days feel manageable, one tiny step at a time.

What’s the hardest part of ADHD for you?
Mine is starting a task when I know it’ll only take five minutes.
... Read moreLiving with ADHD often means dealing with an internal world that feels like a whirlwind of competing thoughts, distractions, and energy shifts. One strategy that has personally helped me is adopting the 'Next Tiny Step' method mentioned in the article. Instead of fixating on the daunting task as a whole, breaking it down into the smallest actionable step allowed me to build momentum more effectively.
For example, when cleaning a cluttered kitchen, instead of saying "Clean the kitchen" (which feels overwhelming), I tell myself to "put one plate in the dishwasher." This micro-goal gives my brain permission to start, reducing frustration and decision fatigue. Over time, these tiny victories accumulate, making larger tasks feel manageable.
Another game changer for me has been using multiple visual cues and reminders such as sticky notes, phone alerts, and whiteboards. These tools help ensure important tasks don’t get lost in the chaos of daily life. Because ADHD brains can struggle with working memory, placing visual cues where I encounter them often keeps me on track.
I’ve also embraced the 'Rule of Three' approach every morning: selecting one important task, one medium task, and one easy win. This technique prevents overwhelming myself with too many priorities and allows celebrating small wins daily, which boosts motivation.
Importantly, I’ve learned to be kind to myself and celebrate even the smallest achievements, whether it’s replying to an email or drinking water. Building self-compassion reduces guilt and sustains momentum.
Ultimately, ADHD doesn’t mean being incapable — it means our brains function differently. By working with these differences instead of fighting them, you can develop personalized systems that make tasks feel less impossible and more achievable. If you find yourself stuck, try starting with a tiny step and watch how progress naturally follows.
All that and I forgot the whole point of what I was trying to say in the comments see I jumped for one thing and sideline another conversation lol I make a to-do list every day, but they’re so vague and then I forget what the point of the to do list is and I forget or don’t get it done. My to-do list are super detailed. We’re talking where I say. Get up at 6 AM., , brush your teeth, shower, etc lol, then I’ll say go pack a bag, but make sure you put your binder your pencils your book like there has to be specifics. You are spot on with laundry if I just put laundry that can be an array of things, but I have to say make sure you wash the towels. Make sure you wash the white clothes. Make sure you wash the color clothes or if I say clean the living room, make sure you make a bin for things that are going to donations a bin for things you’re keeping a bind for things that you’re giving away..
I have overloaded the to-do list without meaning to I have the intent of only putting a couple things but then as I’m thinking of things I’m just adding on and on and on and then it gets so overwhelming that it just doesn’t get done or gets pushed over to.
So by looking at examples, I’ve been trying to put on there saying do you only three things or three priority things.
I like how you have one important one meeting one small
But I still end up saying oh just one more lol
I am a visual person. I need visual aid. I need something that I can feel.. although digital has made things easier it’s sent to complicate things further. I have a digital calendar on my phone, but I also have a physical calendar on top of that. I need to have you know a wall calendar a dry race board right next to the computer I need to be able to see it and feel it because if it’s not a sight that means out of mind, it does not exist. I have an alarm for everything the phone is constantly on low battery.. I have an alarm for every medication that I take.
Omg this is spot on! I seriously thought something was wrong with me for years and I’ve been trying to do my own research and speaking to people that have ADHD especially women and how I processed things and have been doing things in a certain way that feels just so wrong but I feel like I’m losing my mind and the slides that you have here. It’s like it’s describing me to a T.
In February this year I was tested for ADHD and the VA psychologist was like oh you tested negative. Your cognitive was perfectly fine. What?! I don’t agree come to find out they’re using some old archaic test, which is based on mostly males. I said that stupid test is not gonna tell you anything about me. They should be testing people individually not everyone is the same and I’ve just been gathering notes and what I go through daily and my VA Psychiatrist prescribed me ADHD medication and when I tell you, it was like the holy Grail it helped me focus, but obviously I still have issues and when I see these slideshows on here of people going through the ADHD symptoms I know I’m not alone and I’m saving these cause. I’m putting a file together to show my doctor on Thursday of everything I’ve been experiencing that falls under ADHD because I don’t know how to explain it in words right off the top of my head because I get tongue tied. I forget it’s a whole array of things and it offers under ADHD..
I’ve been investigator all my life so it’s like basically investigating and putting all the facts together Details and presenting it and I get hyper focused on that and it’s basically gonna be like me reading from the paper or be like here you go so she can see and then we can get tested lol
Sorry for the long story, but thank you for the slides. They help cemented even more than I need to get retested because that first doctor was a piece of work and was judgmental and dismissive at the same time. :)
