This squirrel wasn't shy at all!

Spending time photographing wildlife at Mill Race Park in Bartholomew County, Indiana, offers unique and memorable experiences, especially in springtime when nature is vibrant and animals are more active. During one of my visits, I had an incredible close encounter with a squirrel that showed no fear — it seemed almost curious and comfortable around me and my camera. Such moments are precious for wildlife photographers. Patience is key; waiting quietly and observing the animal’s behavior helps build trust. Using a telephoto lens like the Sony FE 200-600mm with a 2x teleconverter, paired with a high-resolution Sony a7r IV sensor, allows capturing detailed shots from a respectful distance without disturbing the animal. Mill Race Park’s diverse habitats attract a variety of wildlife, making it ideal for nature enthusiasts. The park’s tranquil environment during springtime encourages animals to be more visible and active, giving photographers an excellent chance to capture dynamic scenes. In addition to technical skills and equipment, spending time outdoors in such natural settings deepens one’s connection with wildlife.
