Sprayed/Painted Book Edges

That's why I absolutely fell in love with the hobby of decorating book edges. Mask the covers: Carefully apply masking tape along the very edge of your book covers, making sure it doesn't touch the paper edges you want to paint. Paint away: If hand painting, apply thin, even coats of acrylic paint. For spray painting, use light, sweeping motions from about 6-8 inches away. Multiple thin layers are always better than one thick one to prevent paint from seeping. Dry completely: Let each coat dry fully before applying the next, and ensure the final coat is thoroughly dry before unclamping. Reveal your art: Gently remove the masking tape and slowly unclamp your book. Voila! The design possibilities are endless! While solid colors are a great starting point – and look stunning on any shelf – don't be afraid to experiment. I love trying patterns, gradients, or even using stencils for a more intricate look. But my absolute favorite experiment so far has been with glow-in-the-dark paint! For my copy of 'Firefly Lane' by Kristin Hannah, I custom-painted its dark edges with light-colored dots. It looks beautiful in normal lighting, but the real magic happens when the lights go off. The edges glow brightly, emitting a luminous glow that truly feels magical and perfectly captures the essence of the book. It’s such a cool glow-in-the-dark effect that always gets people talking! A few extra tips for success: always use thin coats of paint – this is crucial for preventing page sticking and bleed-through. Patience is your best friend in this hobby.
