10 Must-Do Christmas Experiences in NYC

Christmas in New York truly feels magical - the decorations, the lights, it’s like stepping into a Hallmark movie.

I’ve spent many Christmases around the city, and even tho there are always new activities to do and see, these are still my favorite quintessential experiences to do during this time of year:

1. See the Tree at the Rockefeller Center

2. Visit the best holiday markets

3. Go ice skating – Bryant Park and Central Park are my favorite spots

4. See the holiday windows along Fifth Avenue

5. Catch a Radio City Christmas Spectacular

6. Go on a hot chocolate tour

7. See the houses at Dyker Heights

8. See the prettiest Christmas trees around town

9. Watch The Nutcracker or The Nutcracker Rouge from Company XIV

10. See Brookfield Place decorations & ice rink at sunset

What's your favorite activity to do during the Holidays in the city?

... Read moreNew York City during the Christmas season holds a magical charm that captures the hearts of both locals and visitors alike. The festive atmosphere is amplified by dazzling decorations and the famous Christmas tree at Rockefeller Center, which has been a symbol of holiday spirit for decades. For those who love the outdoors, ice skating offers a quintessential winter experience with popular spots like Bryant Park and Central Park providing charming settings against the city skyline. Holiday markets around the city play a big role too, offering crafts, seasonal treats, and unique gifts that make every visit special. Exploring these markets is a great way to support local vendors and find one-of-a-kind souvenirs. The holiday windows along Fifth Avenue showcase artistic and creative displays from flagship stores, drawing crowds and filling the streets with wonder. A must-see event is the Radio City Christmas Spectacular featuring the Rockettes, a tradition ingrained in NYC’s holiday culture that brings together music, dance, and festive storytelling. For those with a sweet tooth, embarking on a hot chocolate tour through various cafes can be a delicious adventure that warms you up after a day exploring. Dyker Heights in Brooklyn is renowned for its extravagant Christmas light displays on homes, a sight that leaves visitors in awe. Additionally, the city boasts some of the most beautifully decorated Christmas trees at various locations beyond Rockefeller Center, perfect for photo opportunities. Cultural arts complement the season as well with performances of The Nutcracker ballet or the more avant-garde Nutcracker Rouge by Company XIV offering elegant and contemporary takes on the holiday classic. Sunset at Brookfield Place adds a serene close to any festive day, with its decorated public spaces and ice rink providing a peaceful yet enchanting vibe by the waterfront. Whether you’re visiting New York or calling it home during the holidays, these experiences offer a blend of traditional and modern festive joy that exemplify the magic of Christmas in the city. Planning your itinerary around these highlights ensures a memorable holiday filled with cheer, culture, and warmth amidst the winter chill.
