Besties Before Testies 😌
So, I've been seeing this over my feed for a while and decided to give it a try. I really enjoyed doing it because it really had me think back to my childhood 💆🏾♀️
Here's a bit of context on my friends!
🤎-- This friend is the friend that comes to mind when you're making an account, and the security question says, "The name of your childhood BESTFRIEND." This is her forever and always. We started pre-k together and got separated when it was time to go to middle school.
💚-- This is also a childhood friend from elementary school.
🩵-- This is another childhood friend from elementary school. We both were in the gifted and talented classes together, and we're the only ones who could get each other. So, for all of our elementary years, during those classes, we had each other.
💨-- As you can all see, this is MY big stepper. We've been friends so long, we're basically sisters.
👾-- Now, this is another friend I've known for a long time. However, this is one of my long distance friend. I met her on the game IMVU, and we've been friends every since. We basically watched each other grow up. I finally was able to see her last year in 2023!
🤖-- This is another one of my long distance friend! Now I actually liked him a lot lol but we only remained friends. I also met him on IMVU, I still keep up with him, but we are more of acquaintances than friends now.
💅🏾--Now, this was one of my besties in middle school! We did everything together! She came from a military family and always moved around. I made her feel welcomed. She left after middle school and came back for a short while during high school. We definitely fell off because of me and my jealous ex at the time.
😪-- Speaking of jealous and insecure ex. This person was legit a wrecking ball in my life. I think about this all the time and about how maybe my middle/ high school years would have been different in a positive way if I wasn't with an energy vampire the whole time. This person would literally be upset when I gave my attention to anyone else. This is why I lost my best friend at the time (💅🏾)and was only left with my online friends. I probably would have lost (💨) too, but she went to another high school than me.
✨️-- We were already around each other during high school, and then once we graduated, we hung out more since we lived close to each other. Eventually, we stopped talking to each other.
🤔-- I met him at the end of my junior year, and we were great friends all through our senior year. We hung out almost every day only because we lived in the same neighborhood. After that, we hardly kept up with each other.
🎀-- We met at my current job and been friends every since!
🧚🏾♀ ️-- One of (🎀)'s best friends who, in turns, became MY best friend.
💖--I also met her at my current job. She's a bit younger than me, so some of our ideologies differed. Also, one of the main things I noticed with (💖) is that every time she needed me, I was there for her. A breakup, random rant, family issues. HOWEVER, when it was my turn and I needed her, she was nowhere to be found. You know those friends who go ghost once they get a man? Yeah. So that was a silent cut-off.

It's more than just listing names; it's about understanding the journey of your evolving friendships and how they've shaped you. So, how do you start your own friendship timeline? First, grab a notebook or open a digital document. I found it helpful to start by thinking of different life stages – childhood, elementary school, middle school, high school, college (if applicable), and then adult life including different jobs or cities. For each period, try to recall the key people who were significant to you. Don't just think about your 'best friends' – consider mentors, colleagues, or even those who were only in your life for a short but impactful time. Next, assign each friend or group of friends an emoji, just like I did in my own timeline! This personalizes it and makes it easier to track. You can use different emojis to represent different types of relationships (e.g., 🤎 for childhood, 💚 for school, 👾 for online friends, 🎀 for current work friends). The OCR content mentioned using emojis to illustrate evolving friendships, and I found this to be a really creative and visual way to map out connections over time. For each person or emoji, jot down a few bullet points about them: When and where did you meet? What impact did they have on you? Any significant memories or challenges you shared? How did the friendship evolve or change over time? Did some fade out, while others grew stronger? This process of creating a visual timeline, often spanning years like my 2003-2024 journey, really highlights the patterns in your relationships. You might notice recurring themes – perhaps you always had a 'protector' type friend, or you've learned to identify certain red flags in friendships. For me, it was a stark reminder of how life events, like a jealous ex, can impact even the strongest bonds, and how some friends truly stick around through thick and thin, like my 'big stepper' (💨). Don't be afraid to include all kinds of relationships, even the ones that ended on a sour note or those that became mere acquaintances. Each person played a role in your story. What did you learn from them? How did they contribute to the person you are today? This project isn't just about nostalgia; it’s a powerful tool for self-reflection and understanding your relationship patterns.
