✨ Raising a Kid on My Childhood Favorites

Movie nights have become one of my favorite traditions with my son. ❤️

Lately we’ve been mixing my childhood favorites with a few classics he hadn’t seen yet, and it’s been so much fun seeing these stories through his eyes.

🍿 The Wiz

🕵️ Harriet the Spy

🐝 Bee Movie

🪧 Billboard Dad

⚽ Switching Goals

🪄 The Indian in the Cupboard

🌳 The Lorax

🧚 Thumbelina

🐘 Horton Hears a Who

There’s something special about slowing down, making popcorn, and sharing the movies that shaped our childhoods while making new memories together.

What movie from your childhood would you watch with your kids?

... Read moreWatching childhood favorite movies with my son has truly become a cherished bonding experience. Each film sparks curiosity and fresh perspectives, especially when I see him connecting with characters and stories that shaped my own youth. For example, "The Indian in the Cupboard" captivates both of us with its magical adventure, while animated favorites like "The Lorax" and "Horton Hears a Who" allow us to discuss important themes about nature and kindness. I’ve found that mixing in a variety of genres—from musicals like "The Wiz" starring Michael Jackson and Diana Ross to light-hearted family comedies like "Billboard Dad" featuring the Olsen twins—keeps our movie nights exciting and diverse. Preparing popcorn and getting comfy in pajamas sets the perfect mood for these special evenings. This tradition doesn’t just entertain; it opens doors for teaching moments and conversations about values, creativity, and history through film. Sharing stories from my own childhood strengthens our connection and gives him insight into my past. I encourage other parents to explore their favorite childhood films and introduce them to their kids—these shared experiences create lasting memories and foster a love for storytelling across generations. What’s also wonderful is seeing how some classic movies offer new meaning or surprise to kids experiencing them for the first time today. For instance, "Harriet the Spy," with its themes of curiosity and honesty, feels timeless. I recommend keeping a list of old favorites, checking movie ratings and suitability, and turning these movie nights into a fun, educational ritual that your whole family will look forward to.
