Love Gives, Lust Takes
“The lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life” do not come from the Father but from the world.” - 1 John 2:16
Humanity was created to love, yet because of sin our hearts naturally bend toward selfish desire rather than holiness. Lust seeks to consume and gratify itself, while godly love seeks the good of another through sacrifice and purity (1 Corinthians 13:4-7).
Apart from Jesus Christ, we cannot purify our hearts or overcome sinful desire because the flesh is weak (Romans 7:18). But Jesus Christ came in the flesh, lived without sin, died on the cross for sinners, and rose again so that those who trust in Him would not remain enslaved to impurity (1 Peter 2:24). As we abide in Christ, the Holy Spirit transforms our desires and teaches us to walk in holy love rather than worldly lust (John 15:4-5).
