My Feel Good Decompression Shows

I’m very particular about the type of tv I choose to watch and when I watch it. It’s all about my mood, how much mental bandwidth I have in order to process the show, and how “migrainey” my head is feeling. These shows offer a great mix of laughter, warmth, and variety, while keeping my sensory needs in mind.

1. The Good Place:

Pros: Quiet intro, diverse cast, unique plot, completed series

Cons: Some episodes feature a bright white screen, but they're few and far between

2. Superstore:

Pros: Funny, diverse cast, progressive topics, completed series

Cons: Loud (but short) intro, brightly lit scenes can be tough on the eyes

3. Schitt's Creek:

Pros: Short & quiet intro, LGBTQ+ friendly, soft lighting, cult following, completed series

Cons: Limited representation of people of color

4. New Girl:

Pros: Diverse main characters, short intro in later seasons, cult following, completed series

Cons: Last season doesn't quite measure up, but still has some good moments

5. Will & Grace:

Pros: Short intro, LGBTQ+ friendly, funny

Cons: Some 90s/2000s stereotypes and lack of diversity

6. Brooklyn 99:

Pros: Funny, diverse cast, LGBTQ+ friendly, completed series

Cons: Loud & long intro, overall louder show

7. Great British Baking Show:

Pros: Wholesome, lovely accents, enjoyable intro

Cons: Bright show, occasionally tone-deaf

Whether it's a light-hearted comedy or a heartwarming series, the right show can brighten your mood and soothe your mind. Here are some key aspects to consider when selecting the best feel-good TV shows. A diverse and inclusive cast can significantly enhance the viewing experience. Shows like 'The Good Place' and 'Brooklyn 99' not only feature engaging storylines but also represent various communities, making them relatable to a wide audience. Further, these series often tackle progressive themes while maintaining a humorous undertone, perfect for light watching. In addition to diversity, consider the sensory aspects of your chosen shows. Many opt for shows with soft lighting and quieter intros, such as 'Schitt's Creek,' which help reduce overstimulation. With a cult following and an LGBTQ+ friendly vibe, this series proves to be a crowd-pleaser while being mindful of sensory comfort.
