Hey everyone! So, I've noticed a lot of buzz around my dragon art, and some of you are curious about the inspiration behind them, especially with the #dragonpuppet and #cardboarddragon tags I use! It's true, I absolutely love the unique charm of dragon puppets, and they've definitely influenced the way I think about drawing my characters. For those of you who might be wondering about "hanging doll templates" or how to create something similar, while my competition is all about digital drawing, the principles of designing a dragon puppet can really spark your creativity for your art! Imagine how a dragon puppet moves, how its segments connect, and what kind of textures you'd use for its scales or wings. Thinking in three dimensions, even for a simple cardboard dragon or a hanging doll, helps you visualize dynamic poses and adds depth to your two-dimensional drawings. You don't need to build a whole puppet to get inspired! Just looking at Reference pictures of articulated dragons can give you amazing ideas for how your own Inferno or Slicer might pose or interact. Speaking of my dragons, for those searching for insights into my specific 'pfp style' – what some of you might call the 'John Reprieve pfp' aesthetic – let me give you a little peek behind the curtain! My current profile picture (and my general taste!) leans towards dragons with strong personalities and distinct visual elements. When you're thinking about drawing characters like Inferno, envision deep, smoldering reds and blacks, with a powerful, almost fiery presence. For Slicer, think sharp angles, perhaps cooler tones, and a sleek, agile build. Shadow is all about mystery and ethereal qualities, perhaps darker hues with subtle glows. And my Brownie remake (who I haven't officially released yet, so this is a sneak peek!) definitely has a grounded, earthy feel, maybe with some intricate patterns. I love seeing how artists interpret these ideas, adding their own flair while capturing the essence of each dragon. Remember, the key is to use these as inspiration, not to trace! Focus on understanding their forms and expressions. Digital art offers so much freedom, and as I mentioned in the rules, there are tons of free art apps out there if you're just starting. Don't be afraid to experiment with different brushes, layering, and color palettes to bring these dragons to life. My taste often involves a balance of detailed textures and impactful silhouettes, so keep that in mind. Whether you're exploring the world of cardboard dragons or just perfecting your digital brushstrokes, the goal is to have fun and create something you're proud of. I'm so excited to see all your creative interpretations of my dragons for the PFP comp! Let your imagination soar, and good luck!
