What is DBT 🌸
What is DBT? (Dialectical Behavior Therapy)
DBT is an evidence-based therapy developed by psychologist Marsha Linehan to help individuals build practical skills to manage overwhelming emotions, improve relationships, tolerate distress, and live a life aligned with their values.
DBT isn’t about “getting rid” of difficult emotions—it’s about learning how to respond to them effectively.
✨ The 4 Core DBT Modules:
🧘♀️ Module 1: Mindfulness
Mindfulness is the foundation of DBT. It teaches us how to slow down, stay present, and observe our thoughts, emotions, and experiences without judgment. By practicing mindfulness, we learn to respond intentionally rather than react automatically.
💜 Module 2: Distress Tolerance
Life is full of painful moments that we cannot always control. Distress tolerance skills help us survive crises, cope with difficult situations, and reduce impulsive reactions without making things worse.
🌱 Module 3: Emotion Regulation
Emotions are important messengers, but they don’t have to control us. Emotion regulation teaches us how to understand our emotions, reduce emotional vulnerability, and build habits that support emotional balance.
🤝 Module 4: Interpersonal Effectiveness
Healthy relationships require communication, boundaries, and self-respect. This module teaches us how to ask for what we need, say no when necessary, and maintain meaningful relationships while staying true to ourselves.
💫 DBT reminds us that two things can be true at once: we can accept ourselves as we are AND work toward meaningful change.
Small skills practiced consistently can create lasting transformation. 💜
