How do you feel about sensitivity?

I feel that sensitivity has been one of the most important factors for not only human survival but evolution. Sensitivity has produced greater minds through broadening our ability of understanding. The fact that the most sensitive countries that care about their people not only last longer but thrive the most. The countries that only care about animalistic values of power to the point of disregarding the people fall the fastest. Sensitivity is a crucial part of overall survival and evolution not only as individuals but as communities and countries.

Whenever sensitivity is seen as a problem and is being actively fraught against is always where education or support systems where lacking or failed.

... Read moreWhat exactly is sensitivity? For a long time, I wrestled with that question, often hearing phrases like 'You're too sensitive' or feeling like my reactions were out of sync with others. It's easy to jump to negative connotations when discussing sensitivity, associating it with fragility or emotional excess. But as the original post beautifully points out, sensitivity isn't a flaw; it's a fundamental aspect of human existence, crucial for our evolution and understanding. For me, the 'meaning of sensitivity' has evolved to encompass a heightened awareness – of emotions, subtle cues, environmental stimuli, and the needs of others. It’s about processing information more deeply, often leading to rich insights and a profound sense of connection. The question 'Too Sensitive?' often carries a negative weight, but what if we reframe it? What if being sensitive means you have a superpower for empathy, creativity, and understanding the world on a deeper level? I’ve learned that embracing sensitivity as a positive trait allows us to 'feel life to its full extent,' as one of the game prompts suggests. This 'deep feeling connects one to the earth, others, and self,' fostering genuine relationships and a richer appreciation for our surroundings. Many, like myself, might resonate with characteristics of Highly Sensitive Persons (HSP) or find aspects of neurodiversity that explain this deep processing. It’s not a disorder, but a distinct trait present in about 15-20% of the population, leading to a more profound experience of the world. Understanding this has been transformative. It means I notice details others miss, feel joy more intensely, and connect with art and nature on a profound level. It also means I need to be mindful of boundaries and self-care to avoid overwhelm, but that's just part of managing any strength. If you’re asking yourself 'Do you think you're a sensitive person?', consider how your experiences align. Do you feel emotions deeply? Are you easily affected by your environment? Do you have a strong intuition? Embracing these traits means recognizing their value, finding ways to use them positively, and creating a life that honors your unique wiring. It’s about cultivating self-compassion and seeking out environments that nurture your empathic and insightful nature. This journey of understanding and self-acceptance is ongoing, and it's truly a kinder world when we allow ourselves to be fully, wonderfully sensitive.
