Still Healing from Trauma? Yeah, me too…

Growing up in a hostile and dysfunctional environment takes a serious toll on anyone. Experiencing abuse as a child, and never having the chance to truly express how you feel, can deeply affect your ability to connect with others—whether in friendships, intimate relationships, or even business. Many of us were forced to face far too much, far too soon, all while dealing with the external challenges life throws our way. That’s my childhood in a nutshell—physically, emotionally, mentally, and verbally abused by the very people I cared about the most. To make matters worse, they didn’t seem to care. You know that old mantra, “That’s what my parents did to me when I was younger”? 🤷🏽‍♀️It’s one that resonates all too well within many families today, and it’s heartbreaking to see how common this dysfunction is.

I had to fight through all of that without ever receiving an apology—just blame for things that weren’t my fault. Crazy, right? But that’s the reality for so many of us. Growing up as the child of teenage parents who were still trying to figure themselves out, taking on too much responsibility as the eldest sibling, being raised by grandparents, and navigating life without guidance—all of that weighed heavily on me. I even found myself in physical altercations with family members, simply because I was tired of being beaten down. From house to house, trying to get through school, the list goes on. But what I want to highlight is how all of that has affected me as an adult.

For a long time, I thought I had healed from my trauma because I could be around my abusers without breaking down. But recently, I realized that those memories still haunt me. I didn’t even recognize my anger until now. So, I’ve been asking God to help me with my anger and unforgiveness because I know it’s keeping me tied to the past when I should be moving forward. The Bible says the enemy comes to steal, kill, and destroy (John 10:10), but because Jesus is our Redeemer and has defeated Satan, that won’t happen through His power. It’s also important to remember that we’re not fighting against flesh and blood, but against the spirit behind the person (Ephesians 6:12). Satan and his followers can influence people to act unrighteously, and that’s where the hurt often comes from.

In this season, I’m learning to embrace grace and work on forgiveness. I know healing will come in due time, and my eyes are fixed on the Lord. I didn’t mean to go on for so long, but I wanted to share these thoughts in case they might help someone else who’s been through something similar. ✨ #healingjourney #transformation #harvest #blackgirlcreator #christiancontentcreator #christianmotivation

... Read moreChildhood trauma can manifest in various ways, influencing relationships and emotional stability. Research shows that individuals who grow up in hostile and dysfunctional environments often struggle with trust and emotional connections in adulthood. The path to healing involves acknowledging past pain, embracing grace, and working through feelings of anger and resentment. Biblical scriptures provide comfort, emphasizing forgiveness and the need to let go of bitterness. To manage anger effectively, it's crucial to identify triggers, seek support, and engage in positive coping strategies such as journaling and exercising. Creating a nurturing environment can facilitate healing and spiritual growth. Remember, healing is a journey that requires patience and self-compassion as we reclaim our lives from the shadows of trauma.
