Do you take progress pictures? You should and here’s why…
The scale can tell you that you’ve lost 10 pounds… It can’t tell you that you’ve transformed your physique. These pictures are about a year and a half apart, and this is why I put so much value on progress pictures. I ask people this all the time: Would you rather weigh what you want to we

Straps aren’t just for weak grip.
They can be used as a tool to improve your mind-muscle connection. Here’s the issue with a hard grip.. When you squeeze the bar too tightly, your forearms and hands become the main event. Your nervous system naturally prioritizes the muscles doing the most work to stabilize the load, which means

I THINK I’M ALMOST BACK
The shoulder is finally starting to look like it belongs again. Symmetry is nearly restored, strength is around 75-80%, and the pain is about as normal as it gets for a 40-year-old with arthritis. Considering the tendon was completely detached earlier this year, I’m pretty happy with where thing

2-month progress comparison on the surgery side
(my right side. I wear my watch on the left). Fully detached rotator cuff tendon. Surgery was in January, in case you didn’t know. Still rebuilding, but things are moving along. Size is coming back, shape is improving, and function keeps getting better. A few nutrition adjustments: more

🫵🏽 STOP DOING THIS IN THE GYM
You have a rep target. You hit it. And you stop the set. That’s the problem. If the set isn’t pushed hard enough to force adaptation… 👉 your body has no reason to grow 👉 or keep muscle (especially in a cut) Failure, total volume, and progression matter. Not just checking a box.

🫵🏽 YOU’VE BEEN LIED TO
Early SUPPLEMENT MARKETING and the FITNESS INDUSTRY sold everyone on timing tricks… but ignored the system. 👉 “Anabolic window” panic 👉 "Drink your shake NOW" 👉 30–40g protein myths That’s marketing, not physiology. Protein timing is overhyped. Hit your daily intake and you’re

⬇️ MY SHOULDER WORKOUT BELOW ⬇️
I’ve been getting a lot of questions about my shoulder routine (pre-surgery of course), so I figured I’d break down what I do and why I do it. First thing to know, my workouts rotate. I don’t train shoulders the exact same way every session. Some days I bias anterior delts, other days lateral or

40 yrs old today.
I was hoping to hit 40 in peak physical condition. But life had other plans. I scheduled rotator cuff surgery for the winter after tearing the tendon, so this birthday looks a little different than I imagined. Right now I’m in a sling, focused more on recovery than physique. It’s been 7 weeks

Perfection is fragile
Consistency is durable

Perfection is fragile Consistency is durable Most people fail because they go all in… then disappear Perfect workouts Perfect macros Miss one step and they reset the whole plan That’s the cycle. Full throttle, crash, restart. That’s not the objective The objective is simple:

Day 7 post-op… Day 2 back in the gym.

Day 7 post-op… Day 2 back in the gym. Right shoulder is locked down in the sling. Left arm is trying to do everyone’s job until the right one clocks back in. Today’s session was upper-body cross-education. Training the left side only while the surgery side stays relaxed. What’s cross-educ

First post-surgery update
Keeping it brief because I underestimated how exhausting it is when you can’t sleep at night. The doctors said the surgery went well… but they also described the inside of my shoulder as “shredded.” So yeah… more repair = more pain. This first week my main job has been rest, letting it heal.

Shoulder surgery tomorrow😣
Shoulder surgery tomorrow has me living in my head the past few weeks. Especially today… shoulder day. 😣 Quick backstory… In August I fell on a roof and snapped my rotator cuff tendon off the bone. I’ve been training around it, pushing what I can, and trying to keep momentum… but tomorrow is

One last deadlift session before surgery
Hey 👋 I’m Tyler. Founder and coach at CounterStep. In August I fell on a roof and detached my rotator cuff tendon. I’ve been working around it and still recomping… but surgery is Wednesday 😣 Don’t count me out though… The mission now is simple-ish: minimize muscle loss and keep body fat i

I’LL START FRIDAY… WILL YOU THOUGH?
Friday is where routines go to die OR never start… because your brain starts doing math like this: “I worked hard all week, I deserve comfort.” “It's already Friday, why start now? I’LL START MONDAY.” That’s present bias: we overweigh immediate rewards (relaxing, food, drinks, skipping
