Does staying up late have an effect on your skin?

I'm a night owl naturally, and going to bed at 3-4 AM was my norm, but I could always note a marked decrease in my skin quality the morning after if I fell asleep after 3. Doesn't matter that I got plenty of sleep and woke up late, the fact that I went to bed that late would always mean dry, splotchy skin with a ton of closed comedones (I think that's what they are).

But if I go to bed even just a bit earlier (I aim for 1:30 now--trying to go even earlier, but baby steps!), my skin the next morning is SO much better. Pores shrink, closed comedones go away, happy days forever.

This is personal, of course, and I'm still testing out the best time to go sleep for myself, but the results have already shown that for me, sleeping late is bad bad bad.

... Read moreGetting enough quality sleep is crucial for maintaining healthy skin. Research shows that inadequate sleep can lead to increased signs of aging, dullness, and other skin concerns. Hormones involved in skin repair fluctuate with our sleep cycles; hence, disrupted sleep can impede healing processes. For a radiant complexion, aim for 7-9 hours of sleep each night. Create a calming pre-sleep routine by reducing screen time and engaging in relaxing activities, such as reading or gentle stretching. Consider investing in a good nighttime skincare routine, like incorporating products with retinol or hyaluronic acid, which can help counteract the effects of late nights. Additionally, stay hydrated and maintain a balanced diet rich in antioxidants that support skin health, such as berries, nuts, and green vegetables. Awareness of your sleep habits is essential; small adjustments can lead to remarkable improvements in skin appearance and overall health.
