Your thyroid 💊 is NOT for Hashimoto’s

🗣️This has to be said. If you’re on Levothyroxine or Synthroid for “low thyroid” but still struggling with fatigue, brain fog, hair loss, or stubborn weight, this message is for you.

An estimated 80-90% of hypothyroidism cases are actually caused by Hashimoto’s, an autoimmune disease where your own body attacks your thyroid.

Here’s the part they don’t tell you: Your medication is just replacing the hormone your damaged thyroid can no longer make. It does absolutely NOTHING to stop the autoimmune attack that is the root cause of the problem.

It’s like constantly mopping up a leak in the ceiling without ever patching the hole in the roof. You're treating the symptom, not the source.

You are not crazy. Your symptoms are real, and you deserve a plan that addresses the autoimmune side of things—looking at diet, gut health, inflammation, and nutrient deficiencies.

It’s time to take your power back. Ask your doctor for a full thyroid panel, including the antibody tests (TPO and TgAb).

Have you been tested for Hashimoto's? Share your experience in the comments. 👇

... Read moreHey everyone! If you're like I was, on Levothyroxine for hypothyroidism but still feeling totally drained, brain-fogged, and seeing your hair thin, you know how frustrating it is. The original post is spot on: our conventional meds often address the hormonal imbalance but don't tackle the underlying autoimmune attack of Hashimoto's. I used to look in the mirror and barely recognize myself, with a constantly puffy face and dull skin – a real 'before' picture, if you will, that no amount of foundation could fix. Understanding that my Hashimoto's was causing these 'totally different problems' beyond just low thyroid hormones was a game-changer. After realizing my Levothyroxine wasn't enough, I started looking into functional approaches for Hashimoto's treatment. One of the first things I focused on was my diet. Cutting out gluten and dairy made a HUGE difference for me. I noticed less inflammation, which directly helped with that persistent facial puffiness. Many people find the Autoimmune Protocol (AIP) helpful, which temporarily removes common inflammatory foods to help calm the immune system. It’s not easy, but the difference in how I felt, and even how my face looked, was truly motivating. Next, I worked on gut health. A healthy gut is crucial for a healthy immune system. I started incorporating probiotics and fermented foods, and also looked into reducing stress, which can impact gut integrity. Addressing things like 'leaky gut' was a big part of my journey. When my gut felt better, my energy levels improved, and that constant brain fog began to lift. Don't forget key nutrients! Many of us with Hashimoto's are deficient in things like Vitamin D, selenium, and zinc, all vital for thyroid function and immune regulation. Getting these levels checked and supplementing under guidance from my doctor was another piece of the puzzle. It's amazing how much a few key nutrients can impact your overall well-being and even contribute to improving symptoms like hair loss and skin health. The journey isn't just about medication; it's about supporting your body comprehensively. While there’s no magic 'after' picture overnight, by addressing the root causes of Hashimoto's through diet, gut health, and nutrient support, I've seen real improvements in my energy, my mood, and yes, even how my face looks and feels. My skin is clearer, the puffiness has significantly reduced, and I feel more like myself again. It's a testament to the fact that Hashimoto's isn't just about managing thyroid levels; it's about healing the whole body. Always work with a healthcare professional, especially one familiar with functional medicine, to tailor a plan that's right for you. It truly empowers you to take control of your health beyond just taking a pill.
