The food environment is definitely different! Portion size is one of the many factors involved #healthyhabits #food

7/4 Edited to

... Read moreHaving experienced grocery shopping and food culture in Greece myself, I noticed several impactful differences compared to the US food environment. For one, portion sizes tend to be more moderate, which plays a significant role in controlling calorie intake without constant calorie counting. Additionally, processed foods there often contain fewer artificial additives, such as Red 40 dye, which is common in many US products. This subtle change can contribute to overall better health outcomes. Living like a local, incorporating daily activities like walking to the neighborhood market, really helps maintain a healthy lifestyle. The accessibility of fresh produce and the tradition of cooking meals from scratch at home encourage mindful eating and reduce reliance on packaged foods. While it's tempting to assume these differences automatically make diets healthier, it's important to recognize they simply create an environment that makes it easier to eat less and choose more wholesome options. Paying attention to these factors, such as portion size and ingredient quality, can be a practical way to adopt healthier eating habits, especially when traveling or trying to replicate these habits at home. Reflecting on my own experience, embracing these local habits encouraged me to be more conscious of what I eat and how much, ultimately leading to better balanced nutrition and wellness.
