RunDisney is an addiction because once you do one race you’re looking to sign up for the next.
Let me preface this by saying I am not a runner and despite having done three in person RunDisney weekends I have never trained. I power walk these races at an average pace of 13:30-14:30 minute miles depending on what is hurting that day!
RunDisney is the perfect setting for those who are going to do their first race or anyone who wants a truly friendly environment to challenge themselves.
The hardest part of these races is the sleep deprivation because you’re up at 3a.m. on the bus by 3:30 and the race doesn’t start till around 5:15a.m. and if you’re like me after the race you’re going to want to hang out at the parks!
Most people sign up for fun because it’s a way to challenge yourself surrounded by others who love a Disney and a Disney feel in general that adds “magic” to your experience.
If you’re looking to sign up for a RunDisney event let me know I’ll be back for the Springtime Surprise weekend this April 🏃🏻♀️
... Read moreOkay, so you've heard the 'hype' about RunDisney, and maybe you're intrigued but also a little intimidated. I totally get it! When I first signed up, I was far from a runner. In fact, I'm still not, but that hasn't stopped me from completing multiple RunDisney weekends and collecting some serious bling along the way.
What makes RunDisney so addictive, you ask? It's more than just a race; it's an experience. Imagine power-walking through Epcot at dawn, waving to characters like Figment, and getting cheered on by enthusiastic cast members. The energy is absolutely infectious, and it makes those incredibly early 3 AM wake-up calls completely worth it. You're surrounded by people of all ages, paces, and abilities, all sharing a common goal: to have fun and earn a little Disney magic.
For my fellow 'non-runners' or first-timers, here are a few tips I've picked up from my own RunDisney adventures. First, don't feel pressured to run! Power walking is a perfectly valid and common strategy. Invest in comfortable walking shoes – my pink and orange Nike running shoes have seen me through many miles! Focus on maintaining a consistent pace that feels good for you. Hydration is key, especially in Florida's humidity, so utilize those water stops. Also, don't skip the fuel; those early mornings and park days demand energy. Small snacks like energy gels or fruit can make a huge difference.
Race day logistics can seem daunting, but Disney makes it surprisingly smooth. Buses start running super early, so plan to be at your bus stop well before your race start time. The pre-race corrals are a great place to soak in the atmosphere and meet fellow participants. Once the race starts, embrace the character stops! Yes, they add time, but those unique photo opportunities are half the fun and create memories that last forever. I still cherish photos with characters that you rarely see in the parks. The course entertainment, from live bands to unique photo backdrops, makes the miles fly by.
And let's talk about the medals! There's nothing quite like crossing that finish line and feeling the weight of a beautifully designed RunDisney medal around your neck. From the vibrant purple Figment challenge medal to the enchanting Encanto half marathon medal, the elegant Beauty and the Beast 10K medal, and the whimsical Alice in Wonderland 5K medal I earned during the Wine & Dine 2023 weekend, each one tells a story. They're not just tokens; they're tangible proof of your accomplishment and a magical souvenir. Displaying them proudly is part of the post-race joy! After the race, while you might be tired, try to enjoy a bit of the parks. A leisurely breakfast or a relaxing ride can be a perfect reward. RunDisney truly offers a unique blend of challenge, community, and Disney magic that keeps me coming back for more, and I bet it will do the same for you!
