Chibimon is such a vibe

Hey fellow Digimon enthusiasts and aspiring artists! I’ve been getting so many questions about my Chibimon drawing process, and honestly, he’s one of my favorite Digimon to sketch. His design is just so iconic and full of character! I wanted to dive a bit deeper into how I approach drawing characters like Chibimon, especially for those of you who might be just starting your own Digimon art journey. When I started this Chibimon piece, like any good drawing, it began with a pencil sketch. This is probably the most crucial stage for me. I don't jump straight into details. Instead, I focus on laying down the basic shapes and getting the pose right. For Chibimon, that meant a lot of round, bouncy forms. I first mapped out his main body, head, and then figured out how he'd be balancing on that circular object. Getting the balance and perspective right in the initial sketch saves so much trouble later on. Don't be afraid to make your lines light and loose here; it’s all about exploration. Once I'm happy with the basic structure, I move onto the inked line art. This is where things really start to pop! I usually use a fine-liner pen to trace over my pencil lines, making sure to create clean, crisp outlines. Finally, reaching the fully colored drawing stage means adding all the shading, highlights, and refining the textures. For Chibimon, this involved making his blue fur look soft and his white belly shine a bit. I also focused on the orange ball he’s balancing on, adding reflections and shadows to make it look round and dimensional. The yellow background I chose really helped make him stand out! It helps capture those tiny details that make a character uniquely them. Start simple: Don't try to draw the most complex Mega Digimon first. Start with Fresh, In-Training, or Rookie levels like Chibimon. Their simpler designs are excellent for practicing fundamentals. Practice sketching diverse poses: Chibimon often moves playfully. Try to capture that energy in your pencil sketch before locking into an inked line art. Experiment with colors: While Chibimon has specific colors, don't be afraid to play with shading techniques or even explore alternative color palettes for fun. Just make sure his blue and white fur is recognizable! Enjoy the process: Art should be fun! Don't get discouraged if something doesn't look perfect right away.
