myeongdong kyoja - 2/5 🥟

ordered the signature kalguksu and it was so disappointing.. with all the hype I was expecting the dish to be mind-blowing, but it was nothing more than a bowl of noodles to me. the broth was quite bland, the dumplings were tiny and had little meat and the staff were unfriendly. would take a good ol’ banmian over this any day.

soha salt pond - 3/5🧂🥐

got the original salt bread and it completely paled in comparison to jayeondo. the bread had been sitting out for a while, cold and slightly hard. taste was quite similar to Jayeondo but slightly less flavourful. jayeondo wins by a long shot in the salt bread war.

hoon hoon hotteok - 5/5 🌰

thankfully this did not let me down!! got the original hotteok and it was scrumptious. it was piping hot and crispy on the outside while dense, nutty and sweet on the inside. the perfect marriage of savoury and sweet. slightly gelat towards the end but would defo have it again!!

solsot - 2/5 🥩

ordered the signature steak pot rice and YALL it was disappointing also LOL. the steak, which was supposed to be the main star of the dish, was overcooked, tough to chew, and quite bland. the only slightly tasty/interesting part of the dish was the broth that you use to mix the rice with at the end.

ikseonchwihyang - 4/5 🥓🍝

this was one of my most highly anticipated food spots! tried the crowd-favourite pork belly rose pasta and it was pretty good! the pork belly’s texture and taste reminded me of charsiew and the pasta was creamy, cheesy and laced with a tinge of spice from the red chili flakes. but I wouldn’t go as far to say that it was the best pasta I’ve ever had. would visit again to try the other dishes tho!

i agree with myeongdong kyoja being so disappointing ! it made me miss my hot bowl of tomyam banmian😭 besides the pasta, the steak at ikseon chwihyang was pretty good too ! worth a try :)
