Beware Of Toxic Love
When you first meet a narcissist, the narcissist will idealize you because they actually think they're in love.
Narcissists confuse
infatuation and lust for love.
Which is pretty much the closest they'll ever come to loving someone.
A new person validating and gratifying them, is the best supply a narcissist can get.
It regulates their
self-esteem tremendously.
That's because that new person mirrors to the narcissist, the picture of “themselves” they need to see in order to be at peace with themselves and maintain their delusions. This picture is, of course, perfection.
That's what that person believes the narcissist is, perfect. Like we all once believed.
That potent supply is what infatuates the narcissist and convinces them, that they found their ideal mate (again).
The narcissist then starts idealizing that person, burdening them with several unrealistic expectations.
Now, for the
“fake” idealization.
When the new partner fails to live up to the narcissists unrealistic expectations, devaluation commences.
The narcissist decides that they made a mistake, the partner isn't their ideal mate, the partner conned them into the relationship.
From then on, the narcissist will start resenting the partner and looking for other/better supply sources.
There's no turning back from this, the partner's supply will gradually turn worse, for several different reasons. One being familiarity (BOREDOM).
The partner will never be able to turn back to a person that's yet to know the narcissist and believes they're perfect.
And the narcissist will never again get their self-esteem regulated by that partner, like the partner did at first.
Infatuation, for the narcissist,
isn't possible anymore.
However, manipulation is. The narcissist knowing that the partner yearns for attention and affection from them, will use “fake” idealization whenever they feel that it would be beneficial for them to do so.
