My Monstera Roots Are Appearing✨🍃

How to propagate Monstera in water by cutting a healthy stem below a node (the bump where leaves/roots grow) using clean shears. Place the cutting in a glass container of water, ensuring the node is submerged while leaves stay dry, and place in bright, indirect light. Change the water every 3–5 days to prevent rot, with roots appearing in 2–4 weeks. Happy planting! 🪴🪴🪴

... Read moreWhen I first started growing Monstera plants, I was amazed at how simple propagation could be with just water and a healthy stem cutting. One important tip I discovered is to always use clean, sharp shears to make a smooth cut just below a node — this is essential because roots sprout from these nodes. I placed my cuttings in clear glass containers filled with fresh water to easily monitor root development. Keeping the node submerged while ensuring leaves stayed dry prevented rot and leaf damage. Changing the water every 3 to 5 days was a game changer for keeping the water fresh and free of bacteria, which greatly helped the roots flourish. Bright, indirect light was ideal since direct sunlight could scorch both the leaves and tender roots. Typically, I saw delicate white roots begin to form after about two weeks, but patience paid off as some cuttings took closer to four weeks to show strong root growth. Once roots were a few inches long, transferring the plants to soil was exciting because the new roots established quickly. Another tip is to avoid overcrowding cuttings in a container to allow proper airflow and reduce mold risk. Adding a bit of liquid fertilizer to the water occasionally can also boost root health. From my experience, propagating Monstera in water not only expands your plant collection cost-effectively but also offers a rewarding way to connect with your houseplants. Watching those tiny roots appear is incredibly satisfying and encourages me to continue experimenting with different varieties and propagation methods.
