Japan Eats 🇯🇵❤️

Here are some things I have eaten this past year while living in Japan.

I am slowing going out and exploring and trying new things. I haven’t tried traditional sushi yet, I’m a little nervous about eating raw fish. I’m not a big fish person.

I have tried Japanese Curry, everyone speaks highly of Japanese curry. I tried it and I was not the biggest fan. It was okay, not worth all of the hype in my opinion. I went once and haven’t been since.

The Pho here is okay, it’s different than in the states. It satisfies the craving.

Fried rice, ramen and chicken from a local shop. Very simple yet very delicious. Highly recommend 10/10

Mexican food, a spot just opened up nearby. Their steak fries and horchata is so good! One of my new favorite spots.

I will be posting more as I go out and explore and try new things.

Do you have any recommendations?

... Read moreLiving in Japan offers a unique food adventure that goes far beyond the usual tourist spots. One thing I've realized during my time here is the diversity and depth of flavors waiting to be discovered, even if, like me, you're cautious about traditional sushi and raw fish dishes. For example, the local take on Japanese curry has sparked many debates; while it's often praised for its rich and comforting taste, I found it a bit overrated, preferring the more straightforward flavors of ramen or fried rice from neighborhood shops. Beyond typical Japanese cuisine, exploring fusion and international foods has been surprisingly rewarding. The Mexican restaurant nearby, with its standout steak fries and horchata, became an unexpected favorite, highlighting how global cuisine adapts deliciously in Japan. Additionally, I’ve tried grilled chicken taquitos or flautas—crispy, savory bites that blend well with local tastes. The pho here, while different from my experiences in the states, shows how Vietnamese comfort food evolves in a Japanese setting, satisfying cravings for something familiar yet new. These culinary experiments have encouraged me to keep an open mind and venture further into Japan’s food scene. If you're also hesitant about raw fish but want to explore Japanese cuisine, I recommend starting with cooked dishes like yakitori (grilled skewers), tonkatsu (breaded pork cutlet), or okonomiyaki (savory pancakes). These options allow you to appreciate authentic flavors without venturing into sushi territory right away. Food exploration is a personal journey, and sharing these experiences helps me connect with fellow food lovers. If you’re living abroad or planning a food trip to Japan, embrace both traditional staples and unexpected finds. Who knows? You might discover new favorites and stories to share along the way.
