... Read moreOne of the most empowering realizations I've come to understand is that longevity in a role or commitment isn't a binding contract to stay indefinitely. Many of us fall into the trap of believing that because we have spent years building something—whether a career, a relationship, or a personal project—we owe it to ourselves and others to stay, even when it no longer serves our growth or happiness. From my own experience, the turning point comes when you begin to see that the time invested isn’t wasted; rather, it’s a period of vital learning and self-discovery. I once stayed in a corporate job for several years, convinced that leaving would mean losing everything I had built. However, the more I stayed, the more I felt confined rather than fulfilled. It was only when I allowed myself to acknowledge that this phase was meant to be temporary that I found the courage to transition to new opportunities. This approach doesn’t mean abandoning commitments recklessly but understanding that life has seasons. Just because you’ve persisted through challenges doesn’t mean you're obligated to continue when your goals and values have shifted. It’s about honoring the journey and the lessons learned, then using that wisdom to make choices that align with your current aspirations. Many people hesitate to leave because of the "sunk cost fallacy"—the idea that all the time and effort invested must be justified by staying longer. But as the saying goes, "You don't owe forever to something that was only meant for a season." Recognizing this can liberate you from feeling trapped and open doors to fresh possibilities. In professional settings especially, embracing change can lead to reinvention and growth. Whether it’s shifting departments, pursuing a different career path, or exploring new passions, the key is to value your development over the sheer amount of time spent somewhere. Ultimately, every chapter in your life contributes to the whole story, equipping you with insights to navigate future challenges and triumphs.
