Narcissistic families

Narcissistic family members will spin your words and make you think it was your fault enough though it wasn't. They love to spin so much stuff it's ridiculous, they're great manipulators. They can make an entire family bw against you.

... Read moreNarcissistic families often engage in smear campaigns, aiming to scapegoat survivors and make them feel at fault for conflicts. This manipulation can take many forms, including twisting words to create a false narrative. A toxic family member may set up situations designed to isolate the victim, ensuring they feel alone and unsupported. To address this, it's crucial to understand the tactics at play: gaslighting, where reality is distorted, and emotional blackmail, where feelings of guilt are used to maintain control. Recognizing these signs empowers individuals to break the cycle of manipulation. Advisors recommend seeking professional help, such as counseling, to navigate the complexities of these relationships. Connecting with support groups also provides a safe space to share experiences and strategies. People dealing with narcissistic family members should focus on self-care, setting boundaries, and establishing a support network. Journaling can also be a powerful tool to document experiences and affirm one's reality under the manipulation. In the journey towards healing, education about narcissistic abuse and its effects can foster resilience and recovery, allowing victims to reclaim their narrative and pursue healthier relationships.

I finally learned that after 60 years!!! The toxic member has literally lied to the other members about me. I never knew because I never asked my other family members questions, to things I knew nothing about. Crazy stuff!! I live about a 2.5 hr plane ride from my mother. She broke her back in 2022. I flew there and helped her for 8 months. Never got a call or text asking if I needed any help. I am 1 of 4 children. I was helping “ our” mother. Not a single offer to see if they could help in anyway! One sibling lives about an hour and a half’s car ride from my mom. Never saw her! Just recently, my mom had to have surgery. Again, I flew there. Planned for 2 weeks. Navigated her thru it all. My sister was supposed to come for Mother’s Day with her husband, her daughter and her husband. She canceled because she has seasonal allergies. She rescheduled the trip a week after I was leaving. I did not stay the additional week because I had already purchased my return ticket. Everyone knew when I was leaving. So I left as scheduled. Now, my mother is not speaking with me. She’s 94 years old. I took care of her because I love her. I would do it again. But I can’t understand why, because I stayed the exact amount of time I had scheduled to stay, and now I am the bad one again. How is it, I am in the wrong. The bad one. The one that couldn’t adjust her schedule to stay another week, so we could possibly have lunch together? Who knows if my sister would have canceled again? I had to get back to my life. I had people watching my 2 dogs . I also had my monthly Dr’s appointment the day after I would be getting home. I have been a disabled RN for the past 13 years. Several auto immune diseases. Some affect my back terribly. It has required me to see a Dr every month to get prescribed medication. Otherwise I can hardly walk. So I had important things I needed to do when I got home. But I am still wrong. ☹️
