The Narcissists Flying Monkeys

Community Discussion: “The Narcissist’s Flying Monkeys”

Have you ever noticed that when you stop responding to a toxic person, someone else suddenly shows up with questions, accusations, or opinions about your life?

Sometimes, narcissistic or controlling people involve others to help maintain influence. These people are often called “flying monkeys.” They may carry messages, gather information, spread one-sided stories, pressure you to reconnect, or make you feel guilty for setting boundaries.

But here’s the important part: not everyone who believes their story is intentionally helping them. Some people may simply be misinformed, manipulated, or only hearing one side.

💬 Let’s Talk

1. Have you ever felt like someone was being used to get information about you?

2. How do you respond when someone brings you messages from a person you’ve chosen to distance yourself from?

3. Have you ever been pressured to “just forgive” someone without anyone asking what happened to you?

4. What boundaries can you set when mutual friends or family members become involved?

5. When do you decide that explaining yourself is no longer worth your peace?

🔥 Discussion Question

Have you ever realized that the real goal wasn’t reconciliation—it was getting access to you again?

Remember: You don’t have to defend your healing to people committed to believing someone else’s version of your story.

Protect your peace. Set your boundaries. Don’t take the bait.

... Read moreIn my personal journey dealing with narcissistic flying monkeys, I discovered that these individuals, though often unwitting participants, can significantly impact your emotional well-being. Flying monkeys usually act as messengers or spies for the narcissist, gathering information or sowing discord by repeating distorted versions of your story. Recognizing their typical behaviors—such as invalidating your feelings, defending the narcissist relentlessly, or appearing only when drama arises—is crucial to maintaining your boundaries. One key insight I gained is that not all flying monkeys are malicious; some are manipulated or misinformed, believing they are helping. This understanding helped me avoid unnecessary anger while strengthening my resolve to protect my space. Setting firm boundaries with mutual friends or family involves kindly but clearly stating your limits, such as refusing to engage in conversations about the narcissist or not responding to guilt trips. It's also helpful to remember, as highlighted in the original discussion, that explaining yourself endlessly often drains your peace without changing others' beliefs, especially when they are committed to the narcissist's narrative. Embracing this allowed me to focus on my healing rather than seeking validation from flying monkeys or the narcissist’s camp. Lastly, repeated exposure to these dynamics reminded me of the importance of not expecting reconciliation when the underlying intent is control rather than genuine connection. Prioritizing your mental health, avoiding taking the bait, and seeking support from those who truly respect your boundaries are essential steps towards thriving beyond toxic relationships.

A menacing, grey, winged ape-like creature in a red and black uniform is depicted against a cloudy sky, with smaller winged figures in the background. Overlaid text presents a poem titled 'Shame on You,' addressing those complicit in evil and warning of karma for 'flying monkeys.' The author's signature, Pat Wade Nicholson, and the year 2026 are also visible.
Flying Monkeys are as bad as the narcissist
A “Flying Monkey” is the narcissist partner. They shame, attack, harass, spread lies, and believe everything that comes from the narcissist’s mouth. They also stalk and harass on social media. They even make multiple accounts to snoop and don't seem to have a life beyond harassment. Sad little
