Here are 3 key most important things to nail down before starting your wedding preparation:
1️⃣ Decide your Big (Wedding) Date
Literally — the single most important thing you and your fiance HAVE to nail down from the very beginning. Everything - I repeat, EVERY-THING depends on the big date. All planning requires it, and it will be the first thing vendors ask for. Be sure to nail down a date (one that's agreeable for both families), before embarking on your wedding preparation journey.
2️⃣ Discuss your non-negotiables & expectations
It sounds obvious, but it's something that's easily overlooked. When you're all excited post-proposal, couples tend to dive straight into the 'doing' without first sitting down to share their wants and expectations. Talk about your non-negotiables — it could be having a top-tier wedding photographer to document your wedding, or simply having only your families attend your wedding luncheon. You'll never know if you never ask. Your partner could prefer a simple ROM too.
3️⃣ Alignment with both families
Growing up Asian, I already expected this to be part of the package. Depending on your family dynamics, everyone's experience with 'parents' meeting' will vary, and by alot. What may be swift and easy for some may be the longest 2 hours of your life. Always ensure that you have spoken to your partner FIRST before meeting each other's parents. These meetings will often set your families' expectations on what is to come for the both of you.

This alignment upfront prevented many misunderstandings and helped both families feel involved and respected during our wedding journey. Finally, don't forget some self-care moments amid the hustle—taking time to relax and celebrate your engagement strengthens your bond and keeps your excitement alive throughout the planning process.
