why YOU should attend a marriage prep course!👰🏻‍♀️💍

We attended our marriage prep course at our homechurch and the entire marriage prep lasted over a couple weeks (around 2 months).

‼️For marriage prep course conducted in churches — do check if there’s any prior requirements to attending the course! From my experiences, most of the churches don’t require the couple to be engaged for them to sign up for the course. In fact, they encourage couples to do it early so that they will be able to sort out the important issues (if any) and possibly resolve them before it’s too late.

It’s not uncommon for couples to break up after the prep course as they find themselves very different from one another or just misaligned values.

Well well — both me and my then fiancé, thought we’ve got most grounds covered before the course but I guess not 😂

Throughout the entire marriage prep course, we were also paired with an older couple who has walked before us and firsthand experienced the different seasons of marriage & having a family. It’s like a mentor-mentee kinda arrangement but in couples form? The older couple facilitated the sessions by bringing us through the set of questions, shared their personal experiences and tips with us along the way.

Needless to say, the experience was pretty enlightening to us both; to be able to get deeper with each other in full vulnerability and talk about everything including the necessary, important but difficult questions.

Some of the not so common topics include relationship with in-laws, salary-talk (what if your partner is earning significantly higher than you), your roles in the marriage, and even down to things like household chores division!

Trust me — it’s the one thing that you’ll thank yourself for doing in the future 🫶🏻

... Read moreIf you're considering a marriage preparation course, I highly recommend starting early—even before you're engaged. From what I experienced in a church-based program, the course usually spans several weeks, offering a comprehensive look at essential aspects of married life. One unique feature was being paired with an older couple who had navigated the ups and downs of marriage and family life. They shared invaluable first-hand insights and supported us through difficult discussions. Topics commonly covered include communication styles, conflict resolution, financial planning, family roles, intimacy, and future family planning. These sessions encourage honest conversations about expectations, budgeting, responsibilities, and even how to manage relationships with in-laws. What stood out most was how we addressed delicate subjects like salary differences and household chores division—conversations we'd never fully had before. It helped us align our values and expectations, which I believe is crucial in preventing future conflicts. For Christian couples, some courses include spiritual foundations and community support elements, integrating faith into the marriage journey. Overall, attending a marriage prep course not only prepares you for married life practically but also emotionally and spiritually. It’s a proactive step that helps couples build trust and deepen their connection before tying the knot. You’ll likely thank yourself for investing this time and effort into strengthening your partnership.

We attended one! Topics covered included communication, conflict styles, finance, relationship dynamics and more. It gave us the peace of mind of having covered all our bases, making sure that we had talked about everything there was to talk about, especially the important topics that can make or break our relationship
