Pop Ponies pt. 2

Hey fellow artists and MLP lovers! So glad you're checking out my latest Pop Ponies collection. You know, when I'm drawing these unique characters, I often think about how much fun it is to create your own My Little Pony OCs. If you're like me and always looking for fresh ideas for your next MLP base, you've come to the right place! Even though I'm sharing my finished illustrations here, I totally get the struggle of staring at a blank canvas or a clean base and wondering where to start. Sometimes, seeing other people's artwork can spark that perfect idea for your own pony! Here are some tips I use when I'm brainstorming new pony designs, especially if you're working with a 'my little pony base': Start with a Theme or Aesthetic: My "Pop Ponies" series is all about blending MLP with popular culture and unique aesthetics. Think about what you love! Do you adore vintage fashion? Maybe a pony with a Vivienne Westwood accessories tag in their background, or even a cutie mark inspired by retro designs, would be cool. Or perhaps you're into a specific music artist, like my Billie Eilish logo cutie mark pony! That light blue unicorn with the dark blue hoodie really shows how you can incorporate modern elements. Play with Cutie Marks and Accessories: Don't just stick to the basics! Look at my character with the rose and crocodile cutie mark—it's unexpected and tells a story. What if your pony has a heart cutie mark but it's not just a plain heart, maybe it's got a unique texture or color? Consider accessories too! That large brown bow on the tail of my light pink unicorn pony adds so much personality. Or imagine a pony proudly wearing a 'BE KIND KIN Defense Nature' badge like my white winged pony, conveying a deeper message. Incorporate Unique Physical Traits: Don't be afraid to give your ponies distinctive features. One of my ponies has black smoky eyes which give her a really mysterious vibe. Another has a dark brown mane adorned with daisies, which instantly makes her feel whimsical and connected to nature. Even small details like freckles can make a huge difference in making your pony unique and memorable. Backgrounds Tell a Story: The background isn't just filler; it can really enhance your character! For instance, my light brown pony has a background with a sepia-toned architectural structure and crying cherub faces, which gives a very specific, almost gothic, atmosphere. My light blue unicorn pony has a glitchy digital pattern with stars and a CD, reflecting a modern, tech-savvy vibe. Think about what environment or elements would best represent your character's personality or backstory. Mix and Match Inspiration: Don't limit yourself! Take elements from different places. Maybe a blonde mane from one idea, small wings from another, and a cutie mark inspired by a lion or bird seen in a collage of old papers. The possibilities are endless when you let your imagination run wild! Finding a good "my little pony base" is just the first step. The real magic happens when you infuse it with your own creativity and unique vision. I hope these ideas help you design your next amazing MLP character!
