FOOT PLACEMENT LEG PRESS

Why is foot placement on leg press so important?

Well this is because different foot placements are going to target different muscles more than other placements. So if you want to target quads you should be placing feet different than if you were wanting to target glutes on the leg press ⬇️

Narrow ➡️ QUADS

Wide ➡️ Glutes

Low ➡️ biggest QUAD stretch and isolation

High ➡️ Glutes & hamstrings

... Read moreWhen performing the leg press, varying your foot placement not only changes which muscles are worked but also influences muscle stretch and activation. For example, placing your feet low on the platform tends to isolate the quadriceps with a greater stretch, giving a deep quad workout that I personally found effective for muscle growth. Alternatively, positioning your feet higher on the platform shifts the focus to the glutes and hamstrings. From my experience, this placement feels different and really helps enhance posterior chain activation during leg day. Width also plays a key role: a narrow stance effectively isolates the quads, whereas a wider stance, while still engaging the quads, brings more glute and hamstring activation into play. I alternate between these stances depending on my workout goals. It’s important to maintain proper form to avoid knee or lower back strain, regardless of foot placement. Make sure your knees track in line with your toes and avoid locking out your knees at the top of the movement. Incorporating foot placement variation into your routine can prevent plateaus and create a more balanced leg development. This personalized approach helped me target weak points and improve overall leg strength.
