This new year, many people are going to show the New Year Resolution of 2025 and sigh a long sigh, because there are so many "unsuccessful" that they start to feel what we have done in the past year? Why do others go beyond us?
This book tells us that suffering is not caused by what we can do, but by the ruler we choose.

📌 At the heart of this book is a comparison of two concepts.
The Gap and The Gain Let me summarize this simple point of view. Read it and think about yourself. Maybe this is the night across the year that turns your life around.

1. Don't compare yourself to "the ideal" (The Gap).
The Gap is when we compare ourselves today to the "ideal picture" or the perfect set, such as "I'm 10 million rich this year," but only 1 million, and we're distressed.
But the truth is, ideals are like the horizon, we see, they run, they never reach, they are for "direction," but not for "measurement." If you use them to measure, you feel allergic all the time.

2. Measure success from the "beginning" (The Gain)
The Gain is a 180-degree backward rotation and looks back at the beginning of last year.
Longlist came out, where are you in January and where are you today? Although the goal of 10 million is not yet reached, the 1 million you achieve is a huge growth from the day of nothing.
The human brain is addicted to progress. When you focus on "The Gain," the brain secretes happiness and gives impetus to walk farther.

3. "The 3 Wins" of every day.
Before going to bed tonight or every night, write down the "three victories" that happen on that day or that year. It doesn't have to be a big deal. Just maintaining a good relationship with your peers or making a difficult decision is Win.
To do this is to train the brain to get used to being someone looking for progress in all situations (Gain-Oriented).
And stop comparing yourself to ideals.

If you feel a failure in this year's work, try this technique:
- Performance Review on yourself:
Instead of not being promoted, let's see what "skills" are you doing better than you did last year? Can you solve the problems you did before? That's what you're going to build on next year.
- Team Appreciation:
If you're the boss, don't keep ticking that the Gap isn't up yet, but admire the team for what they've been through until the end of the year. It's the most powerful morale and encouragement.

ถ้าคุณเสิร์ชหา The Gap and The Gain เพราะกำลังรู้สึกว่า “ทำไมเรายังไปไม่ถึงไหน” บอกเลยว่าเล่มนี้เหมือนมีคนมายกมือจับไหล่แล้วพาเราหันกลับไปมองเส้นทางที่เดินมา แบบใจเย็นขึ้นทันที หลัก ๆ คือหยุดใช้ “ไม้บรรทัดผิดอัน” ที่วัดเราให้แพ้ตลอดเวลา สิ่งที่ผมเอาไปใช้จริงหลังอ่าน (และอยากแชร์เพิ่มจากในโพสต์) คือทำให้แนวคิด Gap/Gain กลายเป็นกิจวัตร ไม่ใช่แค่อ่านแล้วรู้สึกดีวันเดียว 1) ตั้ง “Ideal” ได้ แต่ต้องเปลี่ยนหน้าที่ของมัน อุดมคติไม่ผิดเลยครับ เช่น อยากมีเงินเก็บ 10 ล้าน อยากเปลี่ยนงาน อยากหุ่นดี แต่ให้ใช้มันเป็น “เข็มทิศ” ไม่ใช่ “คำพิพากษา” เวลาเช็กผล ถ้าเรายังไม่ถึง แล้วสรุปว่าเราไม่เก่ง นั่นคือเริ่มตกหลุม The Gap ทริคที่ผมใช้: เวลาเขียนเป้าหมายให้เติมประโยคต่อท้ายว่า - “เป้านี้มีไว้บอกทิศทาง ไม่ได้มีไว้ตัดสินคุณค่าเรา” อ่านซ้ำ ๆ แล้วมันช่วยลดความกดดันแปลก ๆ 2) ทำ Performance Review แบบ Gain-Oriented (15 นาที) เหมาะมากกับช่วงปลายปี/ต้นปี หรือทุกสิ้นเดือน - Starting Point: ตอนเริ่มปี/เริ่มเดือน เราอยู่ตรงไหน (ทักษะ งาน สุขภาพ เงิน ความสัมพันธ์) - Gains: เราดีขึ้นอะไรบ้าง แม้เล็กมากก็เขียน เช่น กล้าพูดในที่ประชุมขึ้น 1 ครั้ง, กลับมาออกกำลังกายได้ 2 วัน/สัปดาห์ - Next Step: ก้าวเล็กที่สุดที่จะทำต่อในเดือนหน้า มันทำให้เห็นว่า “ความสำเร็จของคนไม่สมบูรณ์แบบ” คือชนะตัวเองเมื่อวาน ไม่ใช่ชนะใครทั้งนั้น 3) เทคนิค “3 Wins” แบบไม่หลอกตัวเอง หลายคนติดตรงเขียน 3 Wins แล้วรู้สึกว่าไม่มีอะไรน่าภูมิใจ ผมใช้กติกานี้ช่วย: - 1 Win ต้องเป็นเรื่องเล็ก (เพื่อให้ทำได้ทุกวัน) - 1 Win ต้องเกี่ยวกับความพยายาม ไม่ใช่ผลลัพธ์ (เช่น วันนี้ไม่ไถมือถือก่อนนอน) - 1 Win ให้เกี่ยวกับคนอื่น/ความสัมพันธ์ (ขอบคุณทีม ช่วยเพื่อน รับฟังคนในบ้าน) พอทำไปสักพัก สมองจะเริ่ม “มองหา Gain” อัตโนมัติ และความสุขมันมาแบบไม่ต้องรอเป้าหมายใหญ่ 4) ถ้าคุณเป็นหัวหน้า/ทำงานเป็นทีม: เปลี่ยนคำถามในทีมมีพลังมาก แทนที่จะถามว่า “ทำไมยังไม่ถึงเป้า?” (Gap) ลองเริ่มด้วย - “ไตรมาสนี้เราแก้ปัญหาอะไรได้บ้างที่เมื่อก่อนทำไม่ได้?” - “ใครมีพัฒนาการอะไรที่อยากแชร์?” แล้วค่อยคุยเรื่องเป้าหมายต่อ มันไม่ใช่การปลอบใจ แต่เป็นการสร้างแรงส่งให้ทีมไปต่อ สุดท้าย ถ้าตอนนี้คุณยังรู้สึกว่าตัวเองไปช้า ลองนึกภาพคนกำลังปีนบันไดขึ้นจากหลุม (เหมือนภาพปก) บางวันเราปีนได้แค่ 1 ขั้น แต่ 1 ขั้นนั้นก็พาเราออกจากที่เดิมแล้วครับ
