You’re sage when your nervous system is safe

4/14 Edited to

... Read moreFrom my personal experience, understanding the state of my nervous system was a turning point in how I related to people, especially those I was attracted to. I used to wonder why I would over-explain myself or feel an unexplainable tightness in my energy around certain individuals. It wasn't just shyness or insecurity—it was my nervous system in survival mode. One of the hardest parts was realizing I was performing calmness outwardly while inside, my jaw was tight and breath was shallow. This hidden tension created a gap between how I appeared and what I truly felt inside, which was incredibly draining over time. Recognizing these subtle signs—like feeling more 'myself' when alone or noticing my presence collapse in close connection—helped me start regulating my nervous system. Techniques such as mindful breathing, gentle movement, and creating safe social environments gradually improved my baseline state. If you notice yourself always pre-empting interactions with too much explanation, or experiencing a low-level protective mode disguised as nerves, you might be experiencing nervous system dysregulation. The good news is that resetting your nervous system through intentional practices can lower perceived threats and help you show up more authentically and confidently in your relationships. Remember, true alignment and connection come when your nervous system feels safe—not just in theory, but in your lived experience.
