Until now, I never knew there is a difference between Boston and Connecticut lobster roll 🤔
And with how intense this summer heat has been, their peach bellini soft serve really was the perfect frozen treat

📍 Tom's Oyster Bar, 318 S Main St, Royal Oak Michigan
If you're a seafood lover like me, trying the lobster roll flight at Tom's Oyster Bar is an absolute treat. Each style offers a distinct flavor and texture that truly showcases the versatility of lobster meat. The classic Boston roll features chilled lobster salad lightly coated in mayo and served in a buttered, toasted bun, offering a creamy texture. The Connecticut style contrasts this by serving warm lobster drenched in melted butter, which intensifies the lobster's natural sweetness. The lemon butter roll adds a zesty twist, balancing richness with a bright citrus note, while the BLT lobster roll incorporates crispy bacon and fresh lettuce for an added crunch, creating a playful layering of flavors. Sampling all four in one flight allows you to appreciate the subtle nuances and decide which matches your palate best. I also loved the peach bellini soft serve—a perfect invention to beat the summer heat. Its refreshing, slightly tangy taste complemented the richness of the lobster perfectly. To elevate the experience at home, you might try pairing a light, crisp white wine or sparkling rosé with your lobster rolls; they complement the buttery and citrus elements nicely. Visiting Tom’s Oyster Bar not only offers a culinary adventure with these distinct lobster rolls but also gives you the chance to dive into creative dishes like Alaskan sushi with a dry ice presentation, adding a fun dramatic touch. Don’t miss their decadent chocolate dessert, which is huge and richly chocolatey—definitely a shareable finale to your meal. If you haven’t experienced the differences between Boston and Connecticut lobster rolls yet, I highly recommend starting with this flight. It deepened my appreciation for how regional variations bring out unique qualities in this classic dish. Next time you crave lobster rolls, try exploring beyond the traditional and see which style becomes your new favorite!
