Black & Mexican Unity is more than a social movement for me.

I have so many Mexicans in my DMs telling me to stop trying to be black and the black community will never accept me. I have so many black people telling me to keep their community out of my mouth and to leave them alone.

I am one woman and I feel defeated so many times more than I feel like I should keep pushing because some of the people in both communities can’t see past what the system has set us all to be. I have to remind myself to keep pushing, not for me but for them, my family.

My grandmother is the love of my life. She taught me self love and to accept who I am. As a kid I was made fun of by other Mexicans, in the US, for my hair and nose shape. I hated the way I looked but grandma would remind me it was part of my identity and who our family is. My father dealt with racism in the United States when he first arrived and was treated poorly because of his skin color. My daughters, who are mixed, have dealt with racism from Mexicans and black people… my oldest being fair skinned, like me, has been called a cracker at the age of 4 and a S t 0 p ! D white b!+(h at the age of 11 by black girls while my youngest who is black has dealt with racism from the Mexican community and she’s only 3!!!!!

It is my duty to remind them of their roots, their ancestry and what they stand for.

It’s for them who I push this unity for because I know the history we have in Mexico and in the US when we all come together. Its because of my roots that I know we can unite and succeed as a community instead of divided by communities and it’s for my children’s future that I push for these unities that we once had.

We can’t see the bigger picture now because of all the obstacles our people were put through so we could hate each other and stay divided. This is more than a protest, this is more than a vote… this is for what’s to come and the seeds we plant!!!

It’s not about me being accepted… it’s about helping others wake up! From ending racism within the Mexican community to so much more 🫶🏻 and I know I don’t stand alone.

... Read moreIn the pursuit of solidarity between the Black and Mexican communities, it’s essential to acknowledge the shared struggles and cultural complexities that intertwine our histories. Often, societal narratives reinforce divisions that obscure our common ground. By examining the messages of unity from the past, we can inspire contemporary movements that break down these barriers. Activism rooted in respect and shared heritage can pave the way for deeper connections. Initiatives aimed at fighting racism within and between communities can create a foundation for future generations, promoting dialogue and understanding. Education plays a critical role; by learning about each other’s histories, both groups can foster empathy and a sense of belonging. The journey towards unity starts with individuals like you and me, advocating for awareness and promoting peace in our neighborhoods. As we gather strength from our roots, celebrating the beauty of diversity is vital. Embracing our mixed identities can be a source of pride and empowerment for all involved. Together, we can cultivate an environment where love and respect replace hatred and division. The seeds we plant today will contribute to a brighter, more unified future.
